Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas Releases Three New Xilinx Development Kits
Business Wire, Sept 27, 2006
PHOENIX -- Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas, the largest operating group of Avnet Inc. (NYSE:AVT), today announced the release of three new Xilinx FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) Development Kits: two Virtex-4 PCI Express Kits and a Virtex-5 LX Kit. All three kits provide complete development platforms for designing and verifying applications and are available now for purchase.
The Xilinx Virtex-4 FX PCI Express Development Kit is offered with the FX60 or FX100 device. The system board provides several high-speed serial interfaces to the on-chip RocketIO[TM] multi-gigabit transceivers, including an 8-lane PCI Express interface. The board also supports the on-chip PowerPC[TM] processor with DDR and flash memories, a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port, and CPU debug and trace ports. The Virtex-5 LX Development Kit is based on the LX50 device, and enables designers to prototype high-performance designs for the newest family of Xilinx FPGAs.
The three system boards include a full EXP expansion slot for flexibility and versatility. The EXP specification was developed by Avnet engineers for the unique I/O requirements of FPGA development boards. EXP modules can be added to the board, giving designers the ability to customize their hardware development environment with application specific daughter cards. The EXP connectors provide easy access to 168 high-performance FPGA I/O signals.
"With the introduction of the Virtex-4 FX PCI Express Development Kit and the Virtex-5 LX Evaluation Kit, Avnet continues to provide useful development tools for our Xilinx customers," said Tim Barber, vice president of Xilinx Global Marketing. "The advanced feature set of these boards, combined with the downloadable reference designs from Avnet's Design Resource Center and local field application engineering support, helps our customers bring their products to market sooner."
