Business Wire, Sept 27, 2006
Centralized Management and Backup Solution Eliminates Tape and Manual Data Protection
NEW YORK -- Signiant, the leader in distributed data management, today announced the release and immediate availability of Mobilize(TM) for Remote Data Protection (RDP), a centrally-managed software solution for protecting data in remote and branch offices. Mobilize for RDP solves the entire remote data protection problem, consolidating backup and long-distance disaster recovery operations for heterogeneous IT environments without disrupting remote operations. Signiant will demonstrate Mobilize for RDP at Storage Decisions, Booth #503, in New York City, September 27-29, 2006.
"We know that a large percentage of corporate data resides in remote office locations. This data is intellectual property, financial information, sales and CRM data, and everything in between. It absolutely requires the same level of protection and security that data at the home office is afforded," said ESG Analyst Lauren Whitehouse. "Automating the process of ensuring remote data gets back to the central data center where corporate policies can be enforced not only is logical, it should be mandated. The Signiant offering will appeal to anyone who has faced the challenges of distributed data protection."
Mobilize for RDP centralizes backup and disaster recovery operations, removing the burden of remote data protection from non-technical staff and giving central IT managers and senior executives the peace of mind that remote data is protected by the same policies and systems as core data. Traditional, manually-operated tape-based systems in remote offices have been found to be highly unreliable and don't meet corporate requirements in today's heavily regulated and litigated world. Mobilize for RDP enables organizations to meet corporate mandates for data protection and retention, and eliminates the use of tape and manual data protection processes in remote offices. Automating these processes reduces the costs of remote office backup and disaster recovery operations by more than 50 percent.
"Many of our customers have expressed the need to extend their central policies for data retention and protection to their remote offices," said Richard Bocchinfuso, CTO and VP of business development at MTI, a leading multi-national provider of consulting services and comprehensive information infrastructure solutions. "These processes need to be automated and they need to be totally reliable in order for corporate executives to rest comfortably at night."
"Missed data backups and lost data expose a company to potential downtime and compliance issues, both of which can cost millions, even billions of dollars depending on the size of the company and amount of data," said Signiant CEO Dennis Albano. "With our centralized, automated solutions, Signiant Mobilize for RDP securely addresses the critical remote data protection, transport and replication requirements of large enterprise customers without the need to purchase additional hardware or appliances. Simply put, companies will streamline what was previously a complex, unreliable process, experience reduced costs and bullet-proof data protection by eliminating the need for tape and remote back-up."
In addition to central management and automation of remote backup operations, Mobilize for RDP includes:
* superior security for data in transit;
* exceptional network efficiencies through data reduction and bandwidth controls; and
* seamless integration with enterprise-class data protection products deployed in the data center.
Mobilize for RDP consolidates incremental-forever backups from remote office servers, easily scaling to support from five to more than 2,000 sites. Complementary to WAFS (wide-area file services) solutions, Mobilize for RDP overcomes issues associated with unreliable WAN connections and still centralizes remote data protection operations.
Mobilize for RDP is based on version 6 of Signiant's award-winning Mobilize technology, in use at several hundred companies to solve distributed data management challenges. Mobilize products are highly adaptable and scalable to address a wide range of heterogeneous environments, leveraging core capabilities in policy management, data security and network efficiency to create customized, yet easily deployed and supported solutions.

Mobilize for RDP is available in two configurations. Mobilize for RDP Commercial Edition is designed for companies with five to 30 offices, with prices starting under $10,000.
