Quest Software Introduces Newest Product in Its Roadmap for Managing Microsoft SharePoint; Quest Site Administrator for SharePoint Helps IT Discover, Understand and Manage SharePoint Environments
Business Wire, Sept 6, 2006
ALISO VIEJO, Calif. -- Quest Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT) recently surveyed customers who downloaded its SharePoint freeware and found that more than half of them feel management and administration of SharePoint is one of their top challenges. Seventy three percent of those surveyed indicated they would like to have an automated way to discover SharePoint sites and details of those sites. To help organizations meet these challenges, Quest today announced general availability of Quest(R) Site Administrator for SharePoint. The new product represents Quest's next step in supporting and making the most of Microsoft SharePoint Technologies. Earlier this year the company announced its Quest Discovery Wizard for SharePoint freeware. Quest's previously announced SharePoint roadmap also includes an Exchange Public Folder to SharePoint migration tool and a granular content recovery product.
"Today's organizations are collaborating in many different ways, and SharePoint is fast becoming the platform of choice," said David Waugh, vice president, product management, Quest Software. "But while there are customer benefits from this collaboration technology, there are also increased network bandwidth issues, potentially more help desk support calls, and greater opportunities for organizations to have non-compliant information and security breaches. With Site Administrator for SharePoint, Quest helps IT departments take control of their environment and helps them reduce the potential risks involved with this expanding platform."
Quest Site Administrator for SharePoint addresses these problems through:
--Automated Discovery - The product's discovery wizard identifies all servers and sites across the network and allows searches to browse through discovered content. This first step helps IT begin to understand the SharePoint environment. (This functionality, the same as the Discovery Wizard freeware, is also included in the new product.)
--Comprehensive Reporting - After all installations are found, IT can gather information such as site content details, user activity and storage metrics by choosing from more than 30 pre-defined reports to help with planning decisions.
--Simplified Access - Site Administrator also simplifies access to native SharePoint management tools, allowing for centralized administration and control of SharePoint servers and sites throughout the enterprise.
--Global Policy Management - With centralized administration in place, IT can implement global policy management and make enterprise-wide changes to server and site policies, including site content alerts, storage quotas, authorized users and permissions, in one step.
"Today many organizations use collaboration technology for everyday business," said David Ferris, president and senior analyst, Ferris Research. "End users often use SharePoint to collaborate on projects and share documents, but in most instances IT has no idea who is using these sites or what these sites contain. There is a definite need for IT to have an automated way to understand their SharePoint environment and Quest is doing just that with its new product."
