Avanquest Software and China's T&A Mobile Phones International, Ltd. Complete Licensing Agreement; Leading Asian Handset Manufacturer to Bundle Mobile PhoneTools with Alcatel Brand OT-C635/C630 GSM Flip-Phones
Business Wire, Sept 6, 2006
DENVER -- Avanquest Software, a leading developer and publisher of business and consumer software for the global PC market with operations in Europe, the U.S. and Asia, today announced a worldwide product licensing agreement with T&A Mobile Phones International Ltd., one of China's leading manufacturers of GSM and CDMA phones.
Under the agreement, T&A Mobile Phones, a subsidiary of China's TCL Communication, will bundle Avanquest's popular Mobile PhoneTools PC-cellular synchronization software with its line of advanced cellular devices available in China, East Asia, Europe, and North and South America.
T&A will provide an all-inclusive package consisting of Mobile PhoneTools and a USB cable, making it easy for cellular subscribers with T&A devices to synchronize contacts, calendar and other information between their handsets and personal computers in addition to personalizing their phones with multimedia content.
T&A Mobile Phones offers a range of mobile handsets from its T&A, TMC and JRDC business units, all of which will have access to Mobile PhoneTools under the new agreement. T&A Mobile's Alcatel OT-C635/C630 GSM flip-phones, available in 17 countries worldwide, are the first devices that will ship with Avanquest's software.
"We are delighted to enter this agreement with Avanquest Software," commented Mr. Liu Fei, CEO, TCL Communication. "With Avanquest's popular Mobile PhoneTools software, we will be able to offer even better functions in our mobile phone products. I am confident that working together with Avanquest will further strengthen our competitiveness in the market and help us to stay ahead of competition."
Mobile PhoneTools is compatible with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 98, ME, 2000 and XP and offers syncing capabilities with popular desktop programs such as Microsoft Outlook(R), Outlook Express(R), and MS Exchange(R), as well as Lotus Notes.
"We are extremely happy to be working with T&A Mobile Phones, a subsidiary of one of the largest producers of electronic devices in China, TCL Holdings Company," said David Wright, President of Avanquest Software's Denver-based OEM Division. "This milestone for Avanquest's new OEM operations in Asia demonstrates the success of our investment of technical resources to support design and engineering teams at leading OEMs in the Far East."
In addition to ensuring that contact information and calendars are synchronized and allowing use of the PC to create and edit content for downloading to the wireless device, Mobile PhoneTools also enables any cellular phone to function as a modem for a user's laptop. This wide-area connectivity option makes Internet access possible almost anytime and anywhere without the need of a PCMCIA card or having to search for WiFi hot spots.
Avanquest has sold millions copies of Mobile PhoneTools and provides support for the product in 26 languages, including Chinese, Korean, Thai, Czech and Russian.
About T&A Mobile Phones
T&A Mobile Phones (T&A) was established in 2004 by TCL Communication Technology (TCT) and Alcatel. Alcatel is the worldwide leader in telecommunications network equipment, applications and services and sold handsets in approximately 80 countries including Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa. Alcatel also has close relationships with many major telecommunication operators such as Orange, Vodafone, Telefonica and TIM. TCL Mobile and T&A are cooperating to develop next-generation handset technologies through sharing engineering resources and distribute each other's branded products through their respective sales and distribution networks. To further improve the operating efficiencies and shareholding structure of T&A, TCL Communication entered into the Framework Agreement with Alcatel in May 2005. After the restructuring, T&A became a 100% owned subsidiary of TCT and Alcatel became a strategic shareholder of TCT. With the support of Alcatel, the restructuring has further enhanced TCT's competitiveness and increased the synergy between T&A and TCL Mobile.
