Extensis Awarded Patent for Innovative Font Identification Technology
Business Wire, April 11, 2007
Inventive 'Font Sense' Technology Ensures Accurate Font Matching
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Extensis, a brand of Celartem, Inc., today announced that it has been awarded a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its popular Font Sense[TM] technology. Font Sense is found within Extensis' leading font management solutions, including Suitcase Fusion, Suitcase for Windows and Font Reserve Server.
This technology provides a robust and industry-proven mechanism to identify and match exact versions of fonts. Extensis uses this cross-platform technology in its own font management applications to ensure that an application can activate the exact version of a font. Font Sense is available in Suitcase Fusion, Suitcase for Windows and Font Reserve Server and allows for true font identification in Illustrator, InDesign and QuarkXPress documents.
"Opening a document in creative layout applications without Font Sense could result in frustrating font substitution problems, which in turn could lead to text re-flow and layout issues," said Martin Stein, Vice President of Corporate Solutions for Extensis. "Only Font Sense will fingerprint fonts using multiple criteria such as font type, foundry and version to ensure exact font version matching and auto-activation, thus preventing potential font conflicts and silent font substitutions from occurring."
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted the patent, number 7,197,706 and entitled Method and System for Ensuring Accurate Font Matching in Documents, to Extensis for its unique technology advancements in font management. Extensis cultivates an environment that is committed to breakthrough technology and currently owns several patents and has additional patent applications pending in the United States. Recently, Extensis was awarded a patent for its digital asset management solution, Portfolio, for its original floating Express Palette feature.
