Unisys Names Technology Visionary Craig Samuel to Lead Worldwide Business Innovation at Unisys
Business Wire, April 11, 2007
BLUE BELL, Pa. -- Unisys Corp. (NYSE:UIS) today named Craig Samuel to the newly-created position of vice president, Business Innovation. In this role, he reports directly to Unisys Executive Vice President and President of Worldwide Sales, Marketing and Technology Peter Blackmore. Samuel will continue to serve as president of the Institute for Innovation and Information Productivity (www.iii-p.org), a leading, non-profit technology research organization that Unisys has recently joined.
As vice president of Business Innovation, Samuel will drive and extend the company's history of technological innovation by capitalizing on Unisys strategic capabilities in enterprise security, outsourcing, open source, real-time infrastructure and Microsoft solutions. He will also lead the company's client-facing business transformation organization and will manage the company's intellectual property and patent development to provide additional value to Unisys customers.
"Craig brings to Unisys a keen vision of technology advancement and the ways in which technology will transform everyday living in the future," said Blackmore. "I am confident that his expertise in innovation, knowledge management and intellectual capital will benefit our customers tremendously."
Samuel joins Unisys most recently from HP Services Worldwide, where he served as chief knowledge officer (CKO) for more than six years. In this capacity, he had responsibility for global knowledge and collaboration management, intellectual capital strategy, and technical workforce development and selection for HP's global services business operating in more than 160 countries. Samuel has been recognized for successfully creating structural intellectual capital and innovative thinking by working across geographical boundaries and business silos. After September 11, 2001, he provided counter-cyber terrorism and homeland security strategy and counsel to the Organization of American States (OAS), U.S. Pentagon and top global corporations.
Prior to HP, Samuel held a number of leading positions within organizations in which he promoted the research and understanding of the impact of technology on productivity. He served as vice president and chief technical officer of The Legal Knowledge Company (LRN), whereby he oversaw the development of online learning initiatives and knowledge Web portals for many large global companies. Samuel also served as a senior technology executive for TRION Technologies, Inc. and held a number of positions of increasing responsibility at British Petroleum Group (BP).
"I am excited by this opportunity to join Unisys and contribute to the company's rich history in technological innovation," said Samuel. "Unisys today is involved in some of the most advanced, leading-edge projects underway in the market - from border security and biometric and facial recognition, to next-generation messaging and electronics payments. I look forward to leveraging the company's strengths and capabilities to find new and unique ways to help clients secure and transform their business operations."
In addition to his board position for the IIIP, Samuel is a frequent presenter at industry conferences as well as a trusted advisor to corporations and governments across the globe. He earned a bachelor of science (first class) degree from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and held a funded research engineering position at Stanford University for one year. He currently resides on the Isle of Bute, off the west coast of Scotland.
