Genesys Customer Survey Says More Than Half of Respondents Now Have Green Programs in Their Workplace and Find Meeting Travel to Be #1 Polluter
Business Wire, April 16, 2007
As Earth Day 2007 Approaches, Wise Workers Can Use Genesys Cost Calculator to Get Total Environmental and Cash Savings by Meeting Virtually
VIENNA, Va. & MONTPELLIER, France -- Genesys (NASDAQ:GNSY), a global multi-media collaboration service leader, today released the results of a recent survey of more than 18,000 users among its Global 1000 customers, to gain insight into the "green workplace" in honor of Earth Day 2007. The survey showed that a majority of companies represented now have green programs or policies in place. Respondents found meeting travel to be the largest pollutant under their control and agreed that switching to more virtual meetings could make a major positive environmental impact.
Survey Findings Showed:
* More than half of respondents (56%) say that their company has put policies into place to help preserve our natural environment.
* A full 88% believe that car and air travel to meetings have the largest negative impact on the environment - far larger than paper and plastic goods used in the course of physical meetings.
* 65% believe that using web collaboration for virtual meetings to reduce travel can make a significant positive impact on the environment.
* A preference for conducting virtual meetings from one's office at work (45%) won out over a preference to meet from a home office (33%), showing that people still seek personal interaction although not necessarily where meetings are concerned.
"The fact that more than half of our users report that they have green programs or policies in place is a great testament to the vision of the Global 1000 companies we serve," said Denise Persson, Executive Vice President Marketing, Genesys. "A decade ago, the requirement for extensive travel was seen as something of a status symbol. We're now quickly reaching the point where meeting travel is becoming politically incorrect, and virtual meetings are emerging as having the greatest 'cool factor.' That's good for everyone. It saves a lot of wear and tear on the environment. It also saves a lot of wear and tear on the person."
