New .NET Platform Offers Seamless Data Management to Oil and Gas Companies
HOUSTON -- The Information Store (iStore) today announced that its PetroTrek([R]) Digital Oilfield Web Services & Asset Management Solutions are now available on Microsoft([R]) Office SharePoint([R]) Server 2007 and Microsoft Virtual Earth[TM]. The new Microsoft .NET-based solution empowers people at oil and gas companies to efficiently access data from wherever it resides on the network, ensures user specific role-based data security through entitlements, and presents information in useful and familiar forms such as well logs, production charts, directional surveys and maps.
PetroTrek web-based software solutions first launched in 1997 are now used by petroleum companies including BP, Chevron, PEMEX and Shell.
"Products like PetroTrek Web Services and Solutions are important to our operations, and integral to our Field of the Future Program," said Steve Fortune, information management director, for BP, Gulf of Mexico. "By using the latest version of SharePoint Server, our teams can easily collaborate to more effectively manage our production assets. There are also potential cost savings by leveraging our existing information technology investments and infrastructure."
PetroTrek software solutions allow companies to streamline exploration and production activities by providing the capability to easily find, access, visualize and control data, and enabling people to use information more effectively. PetroTrek Web Services and Solutions also allow asset teams to combine related information from multiple data sources into easily readable Web pages.
"Our goal at iStore is to help our customers leverage leading-edge technology to achieve higher levels of efficiency," Barry Irani, president and CEO of The Information Store said. "By migrating PetroTrek Web Services and Solutions to SharePoint Server and Virtual Earth, our customers can derive even more value throughout the enterprise."
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, launched in late 2006, is an integrated suite of server capabilities that can help improve organizational effectiveness by providing comprehensive content management and enterprise search. SharePoint Server supports all intranet, extranet, and Web applications across an enterprise within one integrated platform, instead of relying on separate fragmented systems. The Virtual Earth platform, is an integrated set of online mapping and search services that presents unique aerial and satellite imagery and can be easily integrated with other .NET-connected Web services.
"The Microsoft Oil and Gas team is focused on delivering industry-relevant technology solutions that solve the most critical issues facing oil and gas companies," said Craig Hodges, director, Oil & Gas Group, Microsoft Corp. "iStore's PetroTrek solutions have been adopted by oil and gas companies to help manage their assets - and now many of these users will be able to quickly and seamlessly integrate iStore's offerings into their existing Microsoft-based technology environments."
