Jones Day Welcomes Former DOJ Antitrust Division Official as Partner

WASHINGTON -- Bruce McDonald, formerly Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Department of Justice's Antitrust Division, has joined the Washington and Houston offices of international law firm Jones Day as a partner.

Mr. McDonald served as one of two DOJ deputies in charge of civil antitrust enforcement since 2003. Having begun his legal career at Jones Day in 1988, he practiced as an antitrust partner with Baker Botts L.L.P. in Houston before joining the government.

Mr. McDonald's experience ranges across the aviation, telecommunications, electricity, oilfield services, petrochemicals, and health care industries.

In 2005, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales appointed him to the Electric Energy Competition Task Force. Mr. McDonald speaks and writes frequently on antitrust law and has taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center.

The University of Texas at Austin awarded Mr. McDonald a B.A. with honors in 1985 and a J.D. with honors in 1988. As a law student, he was a member of the Order of the Coif and managing editor of The Review of Litigation. Mr. McDonald also studied European competition law at the University of London in 1997. A member of the State Bar of Texas and the District of Columbia Bar, he is a vice chair of the American Bar Association Antitrust Section's Sherman Act Section 2 Committee.
