Demonstration is First to Show MediaFLO-enabled Device Platform Using QUALCOMM FLO Chipsets and a Third-Party Application Processor
LAS VEGAS -- PacketVideo, a global provider of multimedia software for the world's leading mobile entertainment services, worked jointly with QUALCOMM to develop a PacketVideo-powered, proof-of-concept demonstration of live streaming TV using MediaFLO[TM] mobile TV technology on a third-party application processor. The result is being shown here this week at the 2007 National Association of Broadcasters Show.
PacketVideo's legacy is rooted in mobile video and extends to mobile broadcast solutions.
The MediaFLO demonstration is on a Linux-based, non-cellular reference device designed by PacketVideo and features PacketVideo's multimedia player, optimized decoder and program guide application.
"This proof-of-concept demonstration illustrates the flexibility of the MediaFLO System for integration with third-party device platforms and applications," said Mike Coad, vice president of partner relations for QUALCOMM MediaFLO Technologies. "We are continually looking at ways to expand the reach and capabilities of the MediaFLO System to bring a quality mobile video experience to end-users around the world."
"It's important for the broadcast world to see that MediaFLO technology is an evolving, open platform that can be ported to other device platforms to support a variety of applications," said James C. Brailean, president and chief executive officer of PacketVideo. "We're optimistic about the momentum behind the MediaFLO standard because it offers more platform options to our mobile operator customers."
PacketVideo's demonstration device uses the FLO(TM) air interface (TIA-1099), a globally recognized, open mobile TV standard. It's the first demonstration of its kind to use QUALCOMM FLO chipsets and a third-party application processor.
