Business Wire, April 24, 2007

DUBLIN, Ireland -- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c54813) has announced the addition of "Eisai Prospects to 2011" to their offering.

Eisai sells products within the following therapeutic areas: neurology; gastroenterology; cardiovascular and respiratory; anti-infectives; metabolic and diagnostics. It is now focusing its research and development efforts on neurology, gastroenterology and oncology/critical care.

Current Growth Drivers

Aricept, a selective acetylcholinesterase inhibitor for the treatment for Alzheimer's disease (AD), is a hugely significant product for Eisai, sales have shown impressive growth year-on-year since its launch in 1997. It is now the company's top selling prescription drug and benefits from co-promotion in many markets with the pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer. Aricept is currently being developed for eight new indications/formulations in a range of important markets.

Along with Aricept, Aciphex is one of the company's key products. Since its launch in Japan, the drug has gone on to achieve approvals and launches in more than 72 countries worldwide. In many of these markets the drug benefits from co-promotional activities with Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) and sales continue to show significant year-on-year growth.

Key Late-Phase Products Reaching the Market Place

Eisai is co-developing Abbott's adalimumab (marketed as Humira) for markets in Japan, Thailand and Korea. Currently it is one of Abbott's highest selling products and Eisai hope to emulate this success in Japan. It is currently awaiting approval for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

Key Late-Stage Products

Eisai is optimistic about filing KES524 (sibutramine), by fiscal 2008. It is in Phase III trials in Japan for the treatment of obesity. With an estimated market potential for Japan of about $150 million ([yen]17.4 billion), it could become Eisai's leading metabolic drug.
