LipidLabs Completes Acquisition
Business Wire, August 1, 2007
HOUSTON -- LipidLabs, Inc. (Pink Sheets:LPDL) announces the closing of its acquisition of Telemedicus today. Telemedicus is an advanced, high-speed medical communications technology developed jointly by Texas A&M and the University of Texas Health Science Center using nearly $20 million in U.S. Government grants. LipidLabs will manufacture, install and manage Telemedicus systems for emergency service providers across America.
"This technology is already saving lives," stated Lipid's President, Mr. Cloud. "This purchase will add significant revenue for the benefit of our shareholders. First responders will have better tools for saving lives and will generally see revenues increase in the process," he added.
The effectiveness of the Telemedicus technology has been demonstrated in field operations since 2003 in Houston and in Liberty County, Texas. It allows doctors to begin treatment of trauma patients immediately when the first responders arrive, rather than waiting for the patient to arrive at the hospital. This reduces casualties and saves lives. Telemedicus is an advanced on-board communications and data system for emergency vehicles and portable military installations that includes an array of computer-based communications, medical monitoring and global positioning equipment mounted in emergency vehicles such as ambulances and life-flight helicopters.
"The potential market for Telemedicus Technology includes approximately 40,000 ambulances nationwide. Assuming even 10% market penetration, Dreams Technology could represent a $24 million market opportunity for LipidLabs." Mr. Cloud continued, "We might find government grant money to help emergency responders like Rural/Metro Corp (RURL) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) implement this life saving technology as soon as possible."
LipidLabs specializes in the commercialization of cutting edge technologies developed by major U.S. research universities. It previously commercialized the Lipoprotein Particle Profile being sold through the "My Healthy Access" Clinics located within Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) and other retail stores. It is now focused on the full deployment of the Telemedicus technology in the U.S.
