Del Monte® and StarKist® Brands Empower American Families to Start Living a Healthier, More Energized Life with the Just One More for Healthy Living™ Pledge
Business Wire, August 2, 2007
With Help from the Food Network's Ellie Krieger and YMCA of the USA, New Pledge Empowers Families to Eat More Fruits, Vegetables, Tomatoes and Lean Protein
SAN FRANCISCO -- If an apple a day keeps the doctor away - adding just one more daily serving of fruit and vegetables, and just one more serving of lean protein such as tuna weekly, should certainly do the trick to promote a healthier lifestyle. To demonstrate its commitment to this important cause, Del Monte Foods (NYSE:DLM) announces that it is partnering with Ellie Krieger, registered dietitian, host of the Food Network's Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger and author of Small Changes, Big Results: A 12-Week Action Plan to a Better Life (Three Rivers Press), and the YMCA of the USA to challenge families nationwide to achieve better health and more energy by participating in the Just One More for Healthy Living([TM]) pledge. The pledge empowers families to take active, yet simple steps toward leading a healthier lifestyle through proper nutrition and increased physical activity. Families nationwide can register online at www.EatJustOneMore.com, or visit their local YMCA for additional information.
"We are looking forward to reaching even more families - particularly parents who have the greatest influence over what their children will eat - with the Just One More for Healthy Living campaign this year. The Just One More program offers realistic tools and solutions, such as the pledge, to encourage families to incorporate more healthy foods into their daily lives with our broad selection of conveniently packaged, nutrient-dense products," said Apu Mody, Senior Vice President, Del Monte Consumer Products. "Del Monte([R]) and StarKist([R]) Tuna branded products, Ellie Krieger, and the YMCA of the USA share a deep commitment to helping families make simple choices that will result in a lifetime of good health."
The Just One More for Healthy Living program, which was created in 2006, encourages families to take simple steps each day that will yield significant results toward a healthy lifestyle. It encourages families to add just one more daily serving of fruits and vegetables, including tomatoes, just one more weekly serving of lean protein such as tuna, and just one more physical activity each day.
"I Pledge to Get More Out of Life - For Them, and For Me!"
The Just One More for Healthy Living campaign is in search of families across the U.S. to take the pledge over the course of the campaign year. As proof of Del Monte's commitment, helpful tools such as healthy recipes, expert tips, health and wellness information, and personalized nutrition advice to keep families on track are available at www.EatJustOneMore.com. The Website also features a section that delivers a custom approach to stocking the perfect, nutritious pantry based on individual family lifestyles. Just One More for Healthy Living starter kit booklets, containing expert advice, coupons and healthy recipes will also be distributed at 100 participating local YMCA's around the country during the month of September.
Ellie Krieger, the Just One More for Healthy Living national spokesperson, registered dietitian, Food Network host of Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger and author of Small Changes, Big Results: A 12-Week Action Plan to a Better Life (Three Rivers Press), will spearhead efforts to encourage families to take the pledge, as well as to educate them about the many important benefits of the program. Ellie will directly support families in their commitment to adding just one more daily serving of fruits and vegetables, including tomatoes, and adding lean protein such as tuna weekly to their diets, by providing exclusive tips and advice, recipes and serving suggestions on www.EatJustOneMore.com, which will include a blog and a video vignette featuring the celebrity dietitian. The new Website will also feature real families who are taking the pledge as they share candid feedback, tips and advice for other families participating in the pledge, as well as key successes.
Just One More Family Study
And that's not all Del Monte and StarKist brands are doing... the Just One More for Healthy Living campaign will monitor approximately 45 real families who will participate in a pilot study to monitor the effects of improved nutrition and increasing activity on overall well-being. According to Laura Molseed, registered dietitian for Del Monte Foods, "Many types of fruits and vegetables, tomatoes and fish are rich in antioxidants, Omega-3 fatty acids, and nutrients that have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. The Just One More for Healthy Living campaign and study aim to indicate that increasing servings of such foods combined with physical activity will result in overall improved health and increased energy."
The featured families will serve as Just One More for Healthy Living role models as their progress will be tracked and shared online. Study participants receive one year's worth of Del Monte and StarKist products to power up their pantries, ongoing consultations with health and wellness experts, and $1,000 upon completion of the study. Del Monte and StarKist brands partnered with The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh to select 45 families in the Pittsburgh, Pa., area as the city has routinely scored poorly on national healthy living indices.
