Packeteer® iShaper™, PacketShaper® and iShared™ Appliances Drive Intelligent Application Acceleration Across Coogee Resources Wide Area Network
Business Wire, August 27, 2007
Australian Oil and Gas Producer Deploys Integrated Packeteer Solutions to Optimize WAN Performance
SYDNEY, Australia -- Packeteer[R] (NASDAQ:PKTR), the global leader in WAN Application Delivery, today announced that Australian offshore oil and gas producer, Coogee Resources Limited, has deployed Packeteer's integrated iShaper[TM], iShared[TM] and PacketShaper[R] WAN Optimization solutions to ensure sustainable performance levels of critical business applications, backups, voice over IP and videoconferencing across its offshore satellite and remote office network.
With this iShaper deployment, Coogee Resources is one of a growing number of enterprises worldwide which have now completed installation of Packeteer's latest WAN Optimization and Application Delivery appliance, combining unprecedented application visibility, intelligent acceleration, secure application QoS and native Microsoft application services in a single, easy to deploy device.
The new Packeteer iShaper devices upgrade existing PacketShaper solutions at the company's two Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facilities in the Timor Sea. Additional iShapers are being installed at the company's Darwin warehouse and on a drilling rig. The company has also installed Packeteer's iShared device at its Singapore project office.
The remote iShaper devices now connect with PacketShaper and iShared devices at Coogee Resources' Perth head office via satellite and wireless network links. This enables the acceleration and prioritization of individual business applications and file services across the company's entire wide area network (WAN). With these solutions, Coogee Resources is also able to maintain the optimal performance of bandwidth-intensive applications such as videoconferencing, while ensuring that other business-critical applications are always available.
According to Richard Oosterman, ICT Manager for Coogee Resources, the company selected Packeteer iShaper for its superior WAN acceleration performance and application classification capabilities. iShaper's support for wide area file services (WAFS) and the breadth and integration of its functionality were also pivotal to the selection.
Prior to the installation of Packeteer's solutions, Coogee Resources had experienced limited bandwidth, which had resulted in unacceptable packet loss and delays.
By deploying iShaper appliances - which integrate the functionality of Packeteer's PacketShaper and iShared solutions in a single device - Coogee Resources had experienced more efficient data storage, an improvement in its data protection through WAFS technology, as well as a reduction in WAN traffic volumes.
Perth-based Packeteer reseller partner, Denver Technology, supported Coogee Resources with its PacketShaper and iShared installations. Denver Technology also assisted Coogee Resources with the implementation of an IP telephony system and bandwidth prioritization changes following an upgrade in the capacity of its satellite communication links. The solution ensures the performance of critical business applications accessed via Citrix as well as voice over IP (VoIP) and videoconferencing communications.
"Because bandwidth availability at our remote sites is limited, we have to utilize it to the maximum," said Oosterman. "With Packeteer's iShaper, iShared and PacketShaper product suite, we can prioritize and accelerate traffic, maximize bandwidth efficiency and offer the local caching of files in a flexible configuration that meets the needs of each of our locations."
"As an innovator in oil and gas production, Coogee Resources understands that high-performance communications and application delivery systems are vital in supporting rapid growth in a competitive market," said Marco Corrent, Channel Manager for Packeteer Australia & New Zealand. "Packeteer's integrated WAN Optimisation solutions are uniquely positioned to provide these benefits in today's complex networked application environments."
