Expand Networks and Interlink Communications Systems form Strategic Two-Tier Distribution Alliance for WAN Acceleration Hardware & Services

Business Wire, August 28, 2007

ROSELAND, N.J. -- Expand Networks www.expand.com, a leading provider of application acceleration solutions over the Wide Area Network (WAN) and recently positioned in the Gartner's Leaders Quadrant for WAN Optimization Controllers 2006, today announced a strategic distribution agreement with Interlink Communications Systems www.interlinkweb.com, a specialty distributor representing manufacturers of data communications and internetworking products.

Expand Networks approached Interlink to partner as the two companies have similar business missions of driving sales and services, and helping customers succeed while experiencing the productivity and cost-saving benefits that an accelerated network delivers across distributed, remote locations.

"WAN Optimization and application acceleration continue to be a hot market," said Scott Eudy, Vice President, Business Development, Interlink. "We see many of our present VARs interested in moving into this space, and with the Expand product line addressing the key pain points through their robust Compass Platform, we look forward to giving them even more exposure to the channel, the market and their increased share of the customer base. Expand is not only channel-centric, but also has the market-leading products to accelerate the network."

"Interlink understands the strategic initiatives and specialties of Expand as we seek to address top level WAN issues associated with Optimization, Application Acceleration, WAFS, QoS and Satellite Communications," said David Brower, Director of Channels Americas, Expand Networks. "The team of professionals is seasoned, experienced and much focused at the edge - going router to router. Plus, Interlink is a specialty distributor and their product line is a complementary, non-competing one. So, we are actually adding to a business rather than taking away marketshare."

The alliance with Interlink is effective immediately. For additional information about the Expand / Interlink partnership, please visit www.expand.com.

How the Supremes Might Take Down Software Patents

The Bilski case -- which could affect business method patents -- is often conflated with the idea of software patents, leading to the conclusion that a loss for inventor Bilski is identical to a loss for all software companies. That isn't exactly the case, but from what I heard today, from someone who was in the courtroom, of the Supreme Court hearing on the appeal should make a lot of companies that depend on software patents pretty nervous.
