Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation to match gifts up to $100,000

MINNEAPOLIS -- Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation announced today that it has established a memorial fund to honor Sherry Engebretsen, a Thrivent Financial employee who was a victim of the Interstate 35W bridge collapse. Thrivent Financial will match gifts dollar-for-dollar to the fund up to $100,000.

As directed by the Engebretsen family, the fund will be used to support scholarships to private colleges and other charities that were important to Sherry. Contributions to the fund will support these causes alone and will not be used to help the Engebretsen family directly.

"We cannot undo the heartache brought to the Engebretsen family, the Thrivent family and to our community by the collapse of the Interstate 35W bridge," said Bruce Nicholson, chairman, president and CEO of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. "Still, it is our hope that the Sherry Engebretsen Memorial Fund will remind the community of our ongoing need to care for others and to live with passion and purpose, as Sherry did."

Donors wishing to contribute to The Sherry Engebretsen Memorial Fund should send their checks to:

She later transferred to become leader of distribution strategies in October 2006. During her four-and-a-half years with Thrivent Financial, she was noted by her colleagues for her common sense, good humor and generous spirit.
