DENVER -- Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) announced that Kim S. Whitehead has been appointed vice president of consumer marketing, effective Aug. 13. Most recently, Whitehead was vice president of consumer marketing with BellSouth Telecommunications, and she replaces Tom McLoughlin, who is leaving the company. She will be based in Denver and report directly to Laura Sankey, Qwest executive vice president of marketing and communications.

"Kim is a seasoned marketing executive with a strong background in telecom," Sankey said. "And her strategic initiatives in promoting brands are a perfect fit with Qwest's goals. We are excited to have her join the team and look forward to her leadership."

In her new role, Whitehead will have responsibility for strategy and execution of the company's consumer marketing programs.

Whitehead, a former U S WEST Communications executive in Denver, joins Qwest with significant professional experience in consumer-based marketing and advertising programs. Prior to joining BellSouth in 2004, she served as general manager for AT&T Wireless' international division and held other key executive positions in strategic planning and national marketing. In addition to U S WEST, where she held positions in budget administration and strategic planning, she has worked for GTE Corp. and AT&T Information Systems, including Mountain Bell in Denver.

Whitehold holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University and an M.B.A. from University of Denver.
