Mobile Satellite Ventures and Sprint Now Offer Unique Satellite Communications Solutions to Public Safety End-Users
Business Wire, August 7, 2007
Public Safety Agencies now Benefit from Continuous Wireless Connectivity During Emergencies and Natural Disasters
RESTON, Va. -- Mobile Satellite Ventures LP (MSV) has entered into a three-year strategic distribution alliance with the Sprint (NYSE:S) Emergency Response Team (ERT) to offer continuous wireless connectivity for public safety agencies in situations where the public switched telephone network (PSTN) is congested or damaged, or where phone coverage is non-existent.
Through this new agreement Sprint ERT will offer unique MSV satellite products and services as part of their Rapid Deployment Solutions portfolio and resell MSV equipment and services to public safety end-users throughout the United States, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Sprint ERT works side-by-side with public safety agencies and other customers to coordinate communications during emergencies and other large-scale events, standing ready to provide customers with three key resources during disaster response and recovery efforts - personnel, equipment, and infrastructure.
"MSV satellite communications services will now provide our public sector customers with the benefit of continuous interoperable communications, a necessity for saving lives during emergencies and natural disasters," says Matt Foosaner, director of ERT for Sprint. "This new addition to our Rapid Deployment Solutions portfolio reflects our commitment to provide the best in class products and services to our customers. At Sprint, we not only provide phones but offer communication tools that help public safety professionals save valuable seconds and lives."
Under the terms of the distribution alliance, Sprint ERT will also offer MSV's current array of services including MSV push-to-talk and two-way radio service over satellite as well as telephony over MSV's MSAT generation satellites. The agreement also includes provisions for adding new and future communications services.
"Our new strategic distribution alliance with the Sprint ERT is another example of MSV's increasing penetration of the important public-safety vertical market. We are very excited to work with Sprint, an industry leader in providing interoperable communications to public safety agencies," said Larry D. Haughey, MSV Satellite Services group vice president for the government sector. "Sprint already has purchased a number of our current generation satellite terminals to augment their disaster response services. Through this agreement, Sprint ERT will sell our unique push-to-talk radio services to government and other public-safety agencies."
