Senior IDC executive brings extensive experience in building scalable, information services businesses
BOSTON -- Lux Research, Inc., the world's leading emerging technology research firm, today announced that Dennis Philbin will join the company as CEO. He will be based in Lux Research's Boston office and succeeds co-founder Peter Hebert, who will remain Chairman. Dennis previously spent more than 12 years at IDC, a global leader in information services. He most recently served as Senior Vice President, leading IDC's Vertical Market Business Units and New Ventures.
At IDC, Dennis was responsible for new ventures expanding IDC's business portfolio in specific industry and role-based research. In this capacity, he led the design and launch of the series of "Insights" business units dedicated to industry-specific technology issues facing leaders in the financial services, energy, health, manufacturing, retail, and government sectors. In addition, he was responsible for the portfolio of products and services aimed at investors and industrial customers. This includes IDC's TechInvestor product, which is one of the fastest growing research services for information technology investors.
Dennis also served as Managing Director of IDC Asia/Pacific, with general management responsibility for the company's 14 Asian country operations. During this time, IDC developed and delivered a strong regional strategy for the efficient, high-quality production of market research and advice in Asia. He has also served as an operating board member for IDG companies Computerworld and BioIT World. Dennis received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University and his Master of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin for his thesis on the funding of technological innovation.
"For more than a decade at IDC, Dennis has proven himself as an entrepreneurial leader and hands-on operator," said Peter Hebert, Lux Research's Chairman. "As Lux Research's business rapidly expands, Dennis' relentless focus on customer satisfaction and new product innovation will help us better meet the growing demand from our global clients."
"I could not be more excited to join Lux Research at this stage in the company's growth," said Lux Research CEO Dennis Philbin. "It's clear that the accelerating pace of innovation in the physical sciences has created a significant market opportunity for leading information service providers. With world-class clients from multi-national corporations and investment firms, Lux Research has built a strong team and valuable franchise that I intend to lead to new heights."
"We're thrilled to welcome Dennis to Lux Research," said Lux Research President Matthew M. Nordan. "His success in scaling and managing information businesses will be instrumental as we launch new research products and move more aggressively in international markets."
