Business Wire, Dec 17, 2007

Perspectives from Strobe Talbott, Alan Greenspan, Heads of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, American Electric Power, ConocoPhillips, International Energy Agency, OPEC and Saudi Aramco, Plus 100 Other Executives & Policymakers Set for Feb. 11-18 Event in Houston

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- With energy in uncharted waters--in terms of price, costs, the environment and geopolitics--energy security is at the forefront, whether for consumers, producers or policymakers. Energy security, though, faces its own major challenges, including the different meaning it has for different participants.

How industry participants can better see and understand the energy security landscape, and explore potential strategic directions and alternatives will be the agenda for discussion at the Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) 27th annual Executive Conference and Related Events, Quest for Security: Strategies for a New Energy Future, February 11-15, 2008 in Houston. CERAWeek will define energy security in its broadest terms encompassing traditional as well as new concerns. Geopolitics and access to supply and markets remain most critical along with the uncertainties in the global and bellwether U.S. economy. For some, energy security also includes the environment and global warming, and uncertainty over future policies, fuel choice and technologies.

"Current events, including the combination of high oil prices, high costs, shortages of people and services, a problematic U.S. economy, and increased concerns about climate change, add to the traditional challenges in balancing interests and needs along the energy spectrum, and in providing sufficient and diverse energy resources to the world," says CERA Chairman and IHS Executive Vice President Daniel Yergin. "CERAWeek 2008 will bring together the foremost thought leaders from the industry, policy and financial communities to analyze the possibilities and assess risks and options for the future."
