Coors' Hispanic Employee Network (CHEN) Joins Hundreds of Volunteers to Deliver Approximately 1,500 Food Baskets to Denver Families in Need
GOLDEN, Colo. -- Coors Brewing Company's Hispanic Employee Network (CHEN) and the Denver City Council will team up with Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets this holiday season to help approximately 1,500 Denver families in need. Starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, December 22 at North High School, 2960 N. Speer Blvd., hundreds of volunteers, including Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, will assemble and deliver food baskets throughout the city.
Mauricio Cardenas, chief officer, U.S. Multicultural Markets and Latin America and the executive sponsor of CHEN for Coors Brewing Company, said: "Coors has partnered with Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets for many years. Every year, this event has grown to serve more and more Denver families." He noted that Coors packaging will be donating boxes for packing the food.
"During the holidays, the need for emergency services increases. With
the help of our community partners, we will be able to make the holiday season a little brighter by providing food to families in need," Patrick Sandos, director of Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets, said. The food boxes contain holiday food items to feed a family of four to six people.
"We feel strongly about our commitment to support the communities where we live and do business. In fact, it is so important, we have embedded it into our corporate business strategy and it supports our values of quality, integrity and respect, excelling, creativity and passion. This program has a direct and positive impact on the Hispanic community in Denver, and Coors is proud to be a part of it," Cardenas said.
CHEN volunteers will be joined by the Sandos' family, Denver City Council members, the Denver Fire Department, and the Denver Sheriff's Office to sort and deliver food.
In 1975, former Denver City Council member Sam Sandos started the program out of his kitchen to feed hungry constituents during the holidays. During the first year, he fed 40 families. In 1978, Sam Sandos and Joe Lucero joined forces with St. Vincent De Paul Society to feed 200 families. The Sandos' sons and daughters now carry on his commitment to the community every year through this tradition. Corporate sponsorship and volunteers have helped the organization increase distribution to assist more families each year.
Tax-deductible donations can be made by sending a check to Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets, P.O. Box 370945, Denver, CO 80237-0945. For more information about volunteering, contact Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets at (720) 529-0145. Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets has already identified the families for this year's distribution.
