Pure Networks Survey Shows 68 Percent of Consumers Claim to Have a Home Network, but the Definition of Home Network Remains a Mystery

More and More Devices and Services Are Being Developed for the Connected Home, but There's Work to Be Done to Prepare Consumers If These New Solutions Are to Be Adopted

SEATTLE -- Pure Networks[TM], Inc., a leading provider of networking software, announced the results of a survey suggesting that while consumers appear to be learning more about using multiple computers at home, their definitions of what a home network is - and their abilities to quickly and easily do what they want with those home networks, are still evolving.

Pure Networks' recent survey shows a wide variance of understanding as people describe a home network. Some of the survey write-in responses included:

High Speed internet is one... a service that comes to my home because I subscribe to it.

A Communication tool

Two or more computer-typey devices connected together somehow

An interactive library

WiFi Connection

It's the system my computer uses to talk to the outside world and to other systems inside my home.

I think a home network is where all the data is stored and processed for all software used in that home.

The survey also showed 33 percent of respondents wish they could share information and files back and forth from their computer to their digital camera, 19 percent between their computer and PDA, and 25 percent between their computer and their iPod.
