Business Wire, Dec 3, 2007

New Policy-Based Management, Multi-Platform and Virtualization Functionality Available in LiteSpeed 5.0 Beta Version

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. -- Quest Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT) today announced that it plans to change the way companies backup and recover their data with the new beta release of LiteSpeed(TM) 5.0. Part of Quest's comprehensive database portfolio, LiteSpeed is the industry leading backup and recovery solution that allows database administrators (DBAs) to optimize their processes, minimize down time and mitigate risk, while maintaining complete control over their environment. Douglas Chrystall, inventor of LiteSpeed, will be selecting an exclusive group of product testers to participate in the beta program.

With close to 10,000 SQL Server customers worldwide, Quest continues to invest in the evolution and support of its SQL Server portfolio. "Since acquiring LiteSpeed a little over two years ago, we have invested heavily in continuing to provide the market with the most advanced SQL Server backup and recovery solution," said Billy Bosworth, vice president and general manager for SQL Server, Quest Software. "With LiteSpeed 5.0, we are releasing innovation that will service the backup and recovery needs of our customers for years to come."

Some key new features planned for version 5.0 include:

* Policy-Based Management enables DBAs to more easily manage their growing environments by organizing databases into logical groups managed by a centralized set of policies

* Virtualized Backups allows DBAs to leverage virtualized environments for rapid recovery of critical systems by backing up a physical database to a virtual image

* Multi-Platform Backup and Recovery offers support for different operating systems and non-SQL Server database platforms in addition to SQL Server 7, 2000, 2005, 2008

"At Quest, we place a very high value on our users' ideas and opinions," said Douglas Chrystall, Quest's visionary for LiteSpeed and CTO of the SQL Server business. "I am very excited to host our LiteSpeed 5.0 beta program and invite all current LiteSpeed customers to apply for consideration."

"LiteSpeed has saved our bacon on numerous occasions, and we are amazed by the innovative and time-saving features that we continue to find in the current version such as double-click restore, row-level recovery and attach file backup," said Brent Ozar, database administrator, Southern Wine & Spirits. "I am honored to be part of the beta community and can't wait to see how LiteSpeed 5.0 will revolutionize the way I backup and recover my data."
