Business Wire, Dec 4, 2007
OpenSpan Platform v3.2 Enhances End-User Productivity, Integrating Business Applications and Automating Processes from the Server to the Desktop
ATLANTA -- OpenSpan, Inc., the enabler of the New Enterprise Desktop, today announced the newest release of its flagship product, the OpenSpan Platform Version 3.2. With support for Citrix and Microsoft Office 2007, OpenSpan Platform v3.2 can integrate applications streamed from the Citrix Presentation Server with applications currently residing on the desktop, providing IT managers with more flexibility when automating tasks for improved productivity at the end-user level.
"As organizations adopt the growing range of application virtualization solutions, they will need to ensure that these virtualized applications can be integrated with existing server and desktop-based applications," said Mike Rose, analyst, IDC. "Organizations need to ensure that the virtualization of an application does not interfere with inter-application communication, and that the technology can be utilized to improve business processes across the entire enterprise."
The OpenSpan Platform enables enterprises to quickly and reliably build integrations and automate business processes across desktop, server-side and third-party hosted business applications. The v3.2 edition enables data integration and process automation such as between a CRM application streamed by Citrix and a Microsoft Office 2007 or other business application running locally on a user's desktop. This enables enterprises that leverage Citrix for performance, security and cost benefits to now drive employee and business productivity gains by extending business processes to Citrix streamed applications.
"Citrix understands that organizations need to consider existing infrastructure and application environments while looking to adopt the technology needed to remain competitive in an increasingly dynamic world," said Scott Herren, group vice president and general manager, Application Virtualization Group, Citrix. "With OpenSpan, applications delivered by Citrix can be easily integrated with other business applications delivered or hosted on users' desktops, improving corporate agility, productivity and performance."
"Organizations need to ensure that they can extend the functionality of their existing applications, regardless of whether they are server-based, Web-based, located on the desktop or virtualized," said Francis Carden, CEO of OpenSpan. "With the OpenSpan Platform v3.2, organizations can ensure that existing applications grow with their business. OpenSpan will continue to be the leading choice for integrating applications and automating mission-critical business process on the desktop, helping employees become more productive and relieving IT managers of costly, time-consuming integration projects."
OpenSpan Platform v3.2 New Features
The OpenSpan Platform v3.2 has four new features that extend the product's support for building the new enterprise desktop and driving productivity improvements across the entire organization, including:
* Citrix Support--OpenSpan Platform v3.2 supports integration with applications streamed for the Citrix Presentation Server, enabling organizations to integrate Citrix-based applications with legacy and desktop applications, regardless of their location.
* Microsoft Office 2007 Support (OBA Program)--Support for Microsoft Office 2007 business applications will extend the power of the OpenSpan Platform to more departments across an entire organization, driving desktop efficiencies throughout the enterprise.
* Debugging across Multiple Applications--By using OS automation to debug across multiple applications simultaneously, the OpenSpan Platform v3.2 enables organizations to interact with multiple applications and even add debugging for mashups and composite applications.
* Web Grid Automation Support--Enhances the ease of implementing and supporting dynamic Web data tables or grids for improved integration and process automation of modern Web applications.
