Sun Microsystems to Host Panel on Internet Privacy and the "Network of You" on December 12th
Business Wire, Dec 7, 2007
Panelists Will Include Privacy Experts from the State of California, Sun, Intuit, Agilent and UC Berkeley; Moderated by NPR's Dr. Moira Gunn
MENLO PARK, Calif. -- Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq:Java) will be hosting a panel discussion on Internet privacy in an era that Sun refers to as the "Network of You." As more and more personal information moves onto the Internet, ranging from tax returns to health records to family photos, the importance of good privacy practices and controls over personally identifiable information has never been greater. Sun and privacy experts are urging action now at all levels of information technology, corporate governance and government policy.
What: Chief privacy officers (CPOs) and privacy experts representing diverse public and private sector viewpoints will debate the top threats and challenges to online privacy now and in the future; what is being done at individual companies and industry wide; what needs to be done and whether or not we will act in time to prevent potentially catastrophic data losses. The panel will also cover workplace privacy issues and free speech; privacy in the context of corporate governance; efforts at global harmonization of online identity standards; state, federal and international legislation in process; and the notion of personal data as the new currency.
