CompTIA Expands Managed Services Initiatives

Business Wire, Feb 1, 2007

Best practices, education, networking opportunities, research are priorities in 2007

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. -- The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) today announced it is expanding its efforts to promote the growth of managed information technology (IT) services.

Key areas of focus in 2007 will include the development of new best practices tools for solution providers delivering managed services; educational programs, events and networking opportunities for professionals working with managed services; and research aimed at helping solution providers find the right opportunities for their managed services offerings.

"Managed services are clearly poised for broad deployment in 2007," said John Venator, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA. "The variety and types of managed services that are available today, or will be available in the near future, are limited only by the imagination of solutions providers and their customers."

The expanded effort by CompTIA to support the managed services sector mirrors significant, positive industry trends. For example:

* The total market for IT and communications outsourcing and services was expected to reach $23 billion by the end of 2006, according to market research and advisory firm IDC. That represents growth of 12 percent over 2005.

* A CompTIA-commissioned survey of managed service providers and their customers found that both groups believe the managed services industry will grow in revenue; in number of companies offering managed services; and in the scope of services available to customers.

"CompTIA is committed to working with our members and the broader industry to provide them with the business tools and skills necessary to make managed services a profitable business for providers; and a source of cost-effective technology solutions for customers," Venator said
