Embarcadero Technologies Announces Total Economic Impact™ Study on DBArtisan

Study Reveals Cross-Platform Database Administration Tool Reaps 857 Percent ROI and $2 million in Cost Savings
SAN FRANCISCO -- Embarcadero Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:EMBT), a leading provider of cross-platform database tools, today revealed the results of a commissioned study by Forrester Consulting titled "The Total Economic Impact[TM] (TEI) of Embarcadero DBArtisan[R]". Forrester examined the financial impact and potential return on investment (ROI) an organization can realize by deploying DBArtisan. DBArtisan is a cross-platform database administration tool that helps database administrators (DBAs) maximize availability, performance and security of enterprise databases.
Forrester illustrated the financial impact of the implementation of DBArtisan within a 2,500 employee life insurance company and its subsidiaries. The company reports annual revenues of approximately $2.1 billion and assets of approximately $29 billion. The findings of the Forrester TEI study concluded that DBArtisan generated an 857 percent risk-adjusted ROI, and a three-month horizon to regain the investment. In addition, specific to this Embarcadero customer, Forrester calculated a three-year, risk-adjusted total NPV (net present value) of approximately $2 million to represent the net cost savings and benefits attributed to using DBArtisan when compared with the customer's prior processes.
Forrester also found that DBArtisan provided significant productivity gains among the application development, database administration and IT infrastructure staff, measured in terms of labor cost savings. After polling members of the application development team, Forrester determined that the use of DBArtisan saved each of the 18 developers up to four hours per day in development work.
"Without a trustworthy tool that can generate flawless DDL and SQL, which can in turn be promoted into production without error, we would require several more people than we currently employ. We could not do the job that my team does without a tool like this," said the assistant vice president of database administration.
In addition, the Forrester study showed that DBArtisan solved challenges related to Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation. To become compliant, this organization required implementation of technical controls and needed to address risk mitigation. The vice president needed a better understanding of the security of all database environments and to demonstrate effective controls to their auditors. DBArtisan effectively addressed these issues.
The Forrester study found that other organizations likely to see beneficial results using DBArtisan include companies that:
* Manage tens, hundreds or thousands of heterogeneous databases in their environment,
* Have performance tuning-related issues in production environments,
* Want a productivity tool to help developers with code editing, debugging, testing and preparing application for production,
* Want to automate testing and tuning of application code against databases, and/or
* Seek to improve manageability of database administration.
"The results of the Forrester study further validate that DBArtisan is a dependable, cost-efficient and reliable solution that enables database professionals to be more productive," said Greg Keller, vice president of product management, Embarcadero Technologies. "The quantifiable results Forrester uncovered far exceeded the customer's expectations, and give us a benchmark to help other customers understand the tremendous value DBArtisan provides."
