INNOVATION Data Processing Announces Support for CRYPT for UPSTREAM Reservoir Data Encryption
Business Wire, Feb 12, 2007
LITTLE FALLS, N.J. -- INNOVATION Data Processing, a market leader in storage management products, has released a new version of UPSTREAM Reservoir supporting data encryption. Corporate business continuance and business data protection plans must expand to meet current Personal Identity Protection (PIP) and Security Breach Notification (SBN) legislation that all but make it illegal for companies to send unencrypted backup tapes off-site.
INNOVATION is ready to assist with UPSTREAM Reservoir, an extension to its FDR/UPSTREAM family of business data protection and business continuance solutions that will lower and possibly even eliminate the liability PIP and Security Breach Notification legislation imposes.
UPSTREAM meets privacy protection compliance requirements, with encryption/decryption of UPSTREAM Reservoir vaulted copies of distributed backups of Windows/Novell/UNIX/Linux data. UPSTREAM Reservoir Encryption uses the AES standard levels of encryption for vaulted tapes and offers 3 different encryption levels. Crypt for UPSTREAM Reservoir also supports public/private keys.
UPSTREAM Reservoir offers a choice of platforms used as the host storage backup server; Windows, AIX, Intel Solaris, Sun Solaris, x86 Linux, Linux for pSeries and Linux for zSeries. UPSTREAM Reservoir supports a wide variety of disk, tape and robotic devices. Backup devices can be a single tape drive, tape library, silo, or disk arrays. In addition, UPSTREAM Reservoir provides the ability to backup to disk or tape, and provides the option for data to be backed up to disk (D2D), staged from disk (D2D2T) and automatically moved to tape.
CRYPT for UPSTREAM Reservoir V3.5.0 is an additional-cost add-on, to allow encryption of secondary copies of backup tapes intended for off-site transport and storage. These secondary backup copies are created using the UPSTREAM VAULT facility. This encryption key may be user-specified or randomly generated for each backup, allowing a unique encryption key for each.
Twenty-seven states (Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin) currently have PIP/SBN legislation.
INNOVATION with this release once again demonstrates its superiority in product design and implementation. With a worldwide customer base and over 34 years experience in backup, restore, hierarchical storage management and disaster recovery, Innovation is internationally recognized for Non-disruptive backups and its inventiveness in this market segment.
