"Father of Indian Software" Faqir Kohli to Deliver Keynote at ITechLaw Asian Conference

WAKEFIELD, Mass. and BENGALURU, India -- The keynote speaker at the International Technology Law Association's (ITechLaw) Third International Asian Conference kicking off today in Bengaluru is Dr. Faqir C. Kohli, founder of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) of India. Widely known as "The Father of the Indian Software Industry," Dr. Kohli pioneered the offshore delivery model for IT services with the founding of TCS in 1968. Part of one of Asia's largest conglomerates, the TATA Group, TCS has since grown to become one of the world's leading IT companies with operations in 34 countries across the globe.

The theme of the conference is "The Challenges of Globalization." The two-day event, Feb. 14-15, is focused on the many legal issues surrounding globalization, including recent trends in mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property rights, employment law, and security, and features presentations from leading legal practitioners, regulators and industry experts.

Conference sessions will cover a wide range of topics, including: Indian securities law and IPO exits; M&A deal structuring; regulatory and risk perceptions in IT outsourcing; multi-jurisdiction patent litigation; managing employment law issues globally; the European Acquired Rights Directive; globalization of university-industry collaborations; net neutrality; and the legal ramifications of IPTV.

The second day's keynote address, "Mass-Market Licensing and Control of Content: The Conflicting National Schemes for Implementation of the WIPO Treaty," will be delivered by Prof. Charles McManis, Thomas and Karole Green Professor of Law, and Director of the Intellectual Property & Technology Law Program at Washington University School of Law, St. Louis. Opening keynoter Dr. Kohli is the former Deputy Chairman of TCS which he served as Director-in-Chief from 1974 to 1994. Under Dr. Kohli's leadership, TCS carried out complex assignments for banks, telephone companies and the government in early 1970s, pioneering India's IT Revolution and helping the country to build its IT industry. Dr. Kohli has been involved in many public and industry initiatives during his distinguished career, and he has received a number of

awards, including the prestigious Dadabhai Naoroji Memorial Award in 2001. He was awarded the Padma Bhusan, India's highest civilian award, in 2002.
