ICSA Labs Announces the First Microsoft Windows Vista Anti-Virus Certification Program
Business Wire, Feb 14, 2007
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. -- ICSA Labs([R]), an independent division of Cybertrust([R]), the global information security specialist, today announced the results of the industry's first anti-virus certification testing program for desktop/server anti-virus products designed for the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.
The following products earned ICSA Labs Anti-Virus Certification for Detection: ESET: ESET NOD32 Antivirus v2.7 (64-bit); GRISOFT: AVG Anti-Virus Professional (32-bit) and AVG Anti-Virus Professional (64-bit); McAfee, Inc.: McAfee VirusScan Plus (32-bit), McAfee VirusScan Enterprise v8.5i (32-bit) and McAfee VirusScan Enterprise v8.5i (64-bit); Microsoft Corporation: Windows Live OneCare (32-bit); Symantec Corporation: Norton AntiVirus (64-bit).
The following products earned ICSA Labs Anti-Virus Certification for Cleaning: McAfee, Inc.: McAfee VirusScan Plus (32-bit); Microsoft Corporation: Windows Live OneCare (32-bit); Symantec Corporation: Norton AntiVirus (64-bit).
To achieve ICSA Labs Anti-Virus Certification, products must meet all criteria in the desktop/server anti-virus detection module and, if selected, the anti-virus cleaning module. The desktop/server detection module is targeted at anti-virus products designed to protect individual desktops, laptops and/or servers of residential users and organizations from self-replicating malicious code infection. Products must demonstrate that they have the capability to detect viruses on demand, detect and prevent the replication of viruses on access, report no false positives and log the results of virus detection attempts. The anti-virus cleaning criteria ensure that products remove in-the-wild viruses from infected files and sectors and are able to remove all viruses without adversely affecting the data or functionality that existed before becoming infected.
"With the continuing onslaught of malicious code, it continues to be of the utmost importance to provide end users the information needed to help ensure the security of their systems, even on the newest operating systems," said George Japak, vice president for ICSA Labs. "ICSA Labs works closely with product vendors and corporate users to develop the most thorough set of testing standards for anti-virus products. ICSA Labs' certification helps end users make informed security product buying decisions for their organizations, and provides continuing assurance on those solutions."
"While Microsoft Windows Vista provides enhanced security protection, additional security measures are required to guard against today's sophisticated threats," said Rees Johnson, vice president of product management, McAfee. "Through McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, available through McAfee Total Protection, enterprise users can obtain full coverage for Windows Vista with simplified single-console management."
"Symantec is pleased to have our industry leading Norton AntiVirus 2007 product line certified under the first ever Windows Vista Anti-Virus Certification Program," said Rowan Trollope, vice president, consumer products, Symantec. "The industry has reached agreement on the necessity of security software in addition to this and any operating system, and Symantec is pleased to offer consumers all of our flagship products on the Vista platform from day one."
