Global Women Leaders Encouraged to Apply
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The enrollment period for the Global Women's Leadership Network 2007 Women Leaders for the World program is open now through March 1. Women Leaders for the World is a residential leadership development program that sparks innovation, fosters global citizenship, expands the capacity and network of women leaders, and prides itself on convening "the world in a classroom." Over the last two years, women leaders from 14 countries have graduated from this summer leadership intensive planned for July 22 through the 29 at Santa Clara University. The 33 graduates have represented multinational corporations, social entrepreneurs, nonprofits, academia, and government.
Lydia Bakaki, a Ugandan graduate of the 2005 program, says, "This is a powerful program that changes you and puts you in a position to be able to live your life fully." After returning from the program, Solome Kimbugwe, a 2006 graduate and Lydia's project partner, said of Lydia, "She was really on fire! Her vision was clearly defined. She enrolled many other people. She had the project be owned by us."
The Women Leaders for the World Program features:
Classroom lecture and discussions with leading experts on leadership and related capabilities; mentoring/coaching in leadership and project development; ongoing support towards completion of participant projects following the program; and building of a global women's network among participants and other members of our global network.
The program is targeted to women working on the forefront of closing the global gender gap in five critical areas: economic participation, economic opportunity, political empowerment, educational attainment, and health and well-being. It is unique in its promise to equip participants with the support and development they need to implement a project that they bring to the program, fully develop during the program, and put into action after the program. To ensure success in their projects, participants are coached for three months after the formal classroom training in applying their newfound leadership capability. Participants earn the Global Women's Leadership certificate and become part of a global network of committed and compassionate innovators.
The Global Women's Leadership Network is sponsored by the Leavey School of Business and the School of Engineering at Santa Clara University.
Additional sponsors include Adaptec, EMC, Logitech, Adobe Systems, Cisco, PARC, and many generous individuals. GWLN counts among its partnering organizations Anita Borg Institute, Women's Intercultural Network, and the International Museum of Women.
