Wi-Fi Location and Voice Communication Leaders Collaborate to Deliver Location-Based Services to Healthcare and Other Enterprise Markets
NEW ORLEANS -- Newbury Networks Inc., the Location Systems Company[TM], today announced the integration of its patented Wi-Fi location solutions and the Vocera Communication System. The integrated solution will allow a mobile workforce in vertical markets such as healthcare, to access Newbury's location services from Vocera's voice over wireless LAN (WLAN) solution. Newbury is demonstrating the joint integration along with its Newbury Location Appliance[TM] and Active Asset[TM] real-time asset tracking application at this week's HIMSS Annual Conference and Exhibition in New Orleans (Newbury booth #3818).
Newbury's Wi-Fi location tracking solutions possess the industry's best precision, accuracy, scalability and reduced latency. Location-aware applications use this accurate location information for many different purposes - asset tracking, security, content provisioning and presence.
"Location services are playing a key role in our customer's ongoing needs - especially in healthcare environments where locating medical equipment and personnel in a timely, efficient manner is critical to saving lives," said Brent Lang, executive vice president, Vocera Communications. "This partnership with Newbury Networks provides our customers with proven location technology that can enhance organizational productivity and workflow processes."
Location Services Meet Voice Communication
There is a wide array of benefits for organizations in enterprise settings when location services are brought to wireless voice communications:
* Locating "Nearest Device" - a Vocera Badge user can immediately locate and identify the closest device i.e. medical crash cart through a simple voice command.
* Send Message or Alert based on Location - Vocera Badge users can send messages to co-workers, groups based on their location i.e. "Call a phlebotomist in emergency room."
* Managing Devices by Location - using features common in Newbury's location-based management applications, Vocera Administrators gain visibility to device performance and quality of service. Identifying optimal network coverage for VoWLAN and locating missing badges are just some of the features available by combining Newbury's location capabilities with the Vocera Communication System.
* Reporting and Usage Analysis - Vocera Administrators can access new reports to visualize and track activity and status of Vocera Badges. Reports such as Most Active Locations and Loss/Prevention Analysis are available.
"Wi-Fi location services are critical to voice and unified messaging when you factor in quality of service, authentication and presence," said Michael Maggio, President and CEO of Newbury Networks. "Accurate and precise location tracking integrated into the Vocera Communications System will increase the business value of the wireless network by ensuring right-time communication and enhanced mobility."
