Solution Combines Secure Remote Access with Single Sign-on to All Applications Through a Web Browser

NEW ORLEANS -- Encentuate, a leading provider of end-point identity and access management (IAM) solutions, and Aventail, a leading best-of-breed remote access company, today announced the Encentuate and Aventail Solution for Secure Remote Access, a healthcare solution that enables caregivers to deliver quality patient care from anywhere. The joint solution improves the productivity of caregivers by providing secure remote access combined with browser based, single sign-on to all applications using the Encentuate Web Workplace/Aventail SSL VPN portal. With the solution, healthcare providers can enable instant access to authorized patient information across all applications without installing any desktop software or modifying application servers.

The browser-based solution enables secure and convenient access to patient information from wherever the caregiver is located - within the hospital, from a remote clinic or a home office. With a single password and log-on, remote caregivers can access a personalized Encentuate Web Workplace/Aventail SSL VPN portal and sign-on to any available web-based, desktop, TTY or mainframe application to serve their patients. All end-point security policies are enforced prior to granting remote access and access is completely protected through a thin client SSL VPN tunnel.

"For Stamford Hospital, providing patient care is a 24/7 process," said James Hodge, Director Infrastructure and Security Services of Stamford Hospital. "With the secure remote access solution, caregivers can securely access all their clinical information from a browser and work effectively from wherever they are located. Because no client software installation is required, the deployment time for the solution is minimal."

The Encentuate/Aventail solution easily integrates into existing infrastructures. All administrative functions can be performed centrally through a secure web-based user interface, including the ability to centrally track and produce audit reports for HIPAA compliance purposes. Optionally, the solution also offers enhanced security through two-factor authentication with one-time password tokens or cell phones.

"Care delivery organizations continue to invest heavily in identity and access management and remote access solutions. Protecting patient privacy and improving caregiver productivity are just a couple of the drivers," said Barry Runyon, analyst at Gartner. "Combining IAM with SSL VPN technology is a sound idea. It ensures secure access to protected healthcare information while allowing caregivers to work from the hospital, ambulatory setting or at home."

The components of the joint solution include:

* Aventail SSL VPN appliance: Uses patent-pending Layer 3 tunnel architecture that offers easy, secure access to all corporate resources and a seamless user experience from both managed and unmanaged devices.

* Encentuate Web Workplace: Works with Encentuate AccessAgent for Terminal Services and Citrix to manage user's identities and applications.

* Encentuate IMS Server: Integrated management system that serves as a central point of secure identity, user and authentication policy management for IT administrators.

* Optional two-factor authentication with hardware tokens and cell phones.

"As leaders in our respective markets, Encentuate and Aventail have developed a joint solution that improves the ability for caregivers to deliver patient care," said E.K. Koh, VP of Products, Encentuate. "By enabling secure and streamlined access to patient information anywhere and anytime, our joint solution not only addresses the needs and schedules of remote caregivers, it also provides centralized, non-intrusive administration and comprehensive HIPAA security compliance."
