New EZ Connect[TM] Wireless Cable Modem Gateway is the Solution for Internet Connectivity at Home: Cable Modem for Always-on Internet Connectivity, Internet-Sharing Router, Switch and 802.11b/g Wireless Access -- All in One Device
IRVINE, Calif. -- SMC[R] Networks (www.smc.com) today announced the launch of the newest of its products for home broadband connectivity: the EZ Connect[TM] Wireless Residential Cable Modem Gateway (SMC8014WG-SI). Connecting to the cable outlet for WAN access, the gateway distributes Internet connection via its one-port wired Ethernet connection, advanced-featured switch/router, and 802.11g/b Access Point functionality. An all-in-one home connectivity solution, the new SMC8014WG-SI serves as a robust, secure communications hub for the home. Easy to set up and maintain, the new SMC EZ Connect Wireless Residential Cable Modem Gateway has the bandwidth capability to distribute connectivity throughout the home for always-on Internet. And, available to Cable Service Providers beginning in March 2007, that connectivity comes at an affordable price: the new EZ Connect[TM] Wireless Residential Cable Modem Gateway (SMC8014WG-SI) puts comprehensive home connectivity at home well within reach.
"Internet access is central to home computer use, and, because today's homes often have more than one computer, sharing broadband Internet access is crucial," said SMC product manager, Mahesh Soni. "It's not just about opening connections, though. Home users need to know that security, parental controls and the reliability that comes with standards-compliance are top notch as well. The new SMC8014WG-SI has it all, for secure, reliable, easy to set up cable Internet access for sharing throughout the home. "
DOCSIS 1.1/2.0 and CableHome 1.1-compliance ensure that the SMC EZ Connect[TM] Wireless Residential Cable Modem Gateway is interoperable with existing cable systems. Its built-in state-of-the-art technology includes 4MB flash ROM, 32MB of SDRAM and TurboDOX technology for fast upstream data transmission--to 30Mbps--and even faster downstream speeds--to 38Mbps. Families can rest assured about safety and security, too, with easy to configure parental controls that can limit access by date/time, keywords or specific site addresses; and network protection via denial of service (DoS) and SPI firewall to keep intruders out.
An ideal solution for home broadband access, the new SMC8014WG-SI provides shared, instant 'always on' Internet connectivity via the built-in 802.11g wireless access point that's easy to set up and configure with the SMC EZ Installation Wizard and on-screen help.
