Business Wire, Feb 5, 2007
VeriFone's MX870 Selected to Implement Multimedia Payment, Migrate Towards Automated Signature Capture, and Enable Future Expansion
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- VeriFone Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: PAY), announced today that Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover food stores, U.S.-based member companies of the Ahold Group, have selected VeriFone's MX870 multimedia customer-facing payment system with signature capture for use in their stores.
The supermarket chains, which have a total of 11,000 checkout lanes, have deployed or plan to deploy hundreds of the MX870 systems by year's end. The company plans to install MX870's in all new and remodeled stores as well as to devise a strategy to replace older legacy EFT units over time. Together, Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover currently have more than 580 stores in the U.S., spanning over nine states and the District of Columbia in the northeastern United States.

"This feature-rich next generation payment solution provides Stop & Shop with a full range of payment capabilities for today, while protecting our investment by providing a modular, future-proof platform," said Gina Ventre, VP of Operations & Technology Support for Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover.
The VeriFone MX870 was selected because of its high-quality color display, durable non-scratch touch panel, and its ability to capture electronic signatures for payment at all Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover locations. Another key feature was its modularity, which offers the ability to add additional capabilities, as needed, such as RF (radio frequency) readers. The MX870 merges full-motion video, high-quality digital sound, a lifelike color display, and highly secure payments capabilities into a single easy-to-use system.
"The MX870 provides retailers with an attractive customer-facing solution sturdy enough to withstand a harsh retail environment," said Jeff Wakefield, director of marketing for VeriFone. "Retailers are able to leverage VeriFone's MX870 payment solution to express their brand, reinforce advertising, or deliver cross-promotions right to their customers."
