Jack Hembrough Elevated to Chairman as Database Security Market Takes Off
NEW YORK and SAN FRANCISCO -- Application Security, Inc. (AppSecInc) (www.appsecinc.com), the leading global provider of database security solutions, today announced in conjunction with the RSA Conference 2007, taking place this week in San Francisco, the appointment of Toby Weiss as president and CEO. Jack Hembrough has been elevated to the position of Chairman of the Board after a successful leadership run of more than four years. Founded in 2001, AppSecInc has benefited from strong demand for security solutions that enable enterprise customers to extend security best practices directly to the database.
"A combination of mounting regulatory pressures, increasingly focused and professional cybercrime, and technology advancements have driven robust demand for data security over the last year," Weiss said. "With enterprise information assets increasingly under attack in 2006 and 2007, demand for database security has never been stronger. Based on this demand and under Jack's leadership, AppSecInc has made remarkable accomplishments from customer wins to revenue growth to market leadership. I'm looking forward to working with Jack and the rest of the team to bring AppSecInc to the next level."
Mr. Weiss takes the reins following a banner 2006 which included:
-- The fifth consecutive year of doubling revenues year-over-year and
continued penetration across key verticals including financial
services, retail, telecommunications, healthcare, education and
government.
-- Over 40 percent growth in the customer base to more than 700
customers globally. Major client wins include:
-- Multiple agency-wide deployments of the company's
vulnerability assessment scanner AppDetective(TM) within the
federal government, including the U.S. Department of Justice;
-- Several Fortune 500 publishers in the financial services,
education and business information markets;
-- More than 40 national and global financial services
institutions including several Fortune 100 financial services
companies distributed across five continents with thousands
of databases; and
-- Several Fortune 1000 retailers, including one global retailer,
marketer and wholesaler of apparel and accessories valued in
excess of $5B.
-- International expansion including a European Operations Center in
the UK, offices in France and Belgium and extension of channel
presence in the Middle East and Africa.
-- Four-fold increase in bookings and a sales pipeline increase by a
factor of six for the company's AppRadar(TM) database activity
monitoring solution.
-- Over 100,000 shipped licenses across the company's three
products, AppDetective, AppRadar and DbEncrypt(TM) since 2001.
Incoming president and CEO Toby Weiss joins the company from CA (NYSE:CA), one of the world's largest information technology (IT) management software companies, where he held several senior management positions. Toby was most recently the senior vice president and general manager for CA's Security Management business unit where he was responsible for the development, strategy, product management, marketing and support for several award-winning security product suites. During his tenure with CA, Toby also served as a senior vice president responsible for managing the regional business including sales, support and administration for several areas in the Asia-Pacific region. Additionally, Toby brings his strategic expertise in product development, operations and marketing to AppSecInc.
On potential areas for future growth, Weiss offered, "With the recent trend toward outsourcing data repositories and financial services operations, the need to monitor database activity and identify potential issues is more vital than ever to maintaining corporate reputations and consumer confidence. AppSecInc remains the only company whose solutions cover the entire database security lifecycle."
In commenting on the market for database security, AppSecInc Chairman Jack Hembrough stated, "The core principles underlying AppSecInc products have always been to focus security and compliance controls on the database. The dramatic growth in demand for database security solutions in the past months and the substantial increase in sales volume we experienced in 2006 all validate our approach to this robust market. With Toby at the helm and strong strategic growth in our future, we're seeing only upside -- we're looking ahead to a breakout year in 2007."
