Codefast Chief Technical Officer and Founder Thomas Schultz to Address Dependency Aware Testing at 2007 Software Development West Conference and Expo on Thursday, March 22, 8:30AM, in the Santa Clara Convention Center
Business Wire, Feb 7, 2007
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Codefast[TM], Inc., the first provider of object-oriented Production Automation and Management solutions for development organizations, today announced that Thomas (Tom) Schultz, founder and Chief Technical Officer, will speak at the Software Development West (SD West) Conference & Expo about "Dependency Aware Incremental Regression Testing." The session will take place on Thursday, March 22, 2007, from 8:30a.m. to 10:00a.m., in the Santa Clara Convention Center.
Development organizations that are attempting to shorten their development cycles and improve quality often hit roadblocks when it comes to the testing cycle, especially regression testing. In these situations, the ability to build and test only the pieces of software that have changed; what is commonly referred to as incremental software build and test can be very beneficial. With incremental build and test, organizations can dramatically reduce testing time resulting in software releases that are higher quality and more functional.
While simple to understand, few organizations have implemented any sort of incremental software build and test capability. The culprits in most cases are unknown or unreliable associations (dependencies) between files and components. Lack of knowledge of dependencies between the software produced during a build cycle and the appropriate regression suites means the organization must run the entire set of regression tests, costing the organization time-to-market and valuable resources. This problem is magnified in legacy systems, where tests collected over many years can take days to run.
Tom's class will discuss and demonstrate some new methods and techniques for the creation of a 'dependency aware' software build and test cycle that can enable effective incremental regression testing. By discovering and establishing links to components and even source modules, developers can dramatically reduce the number of regression tests run to just the affected and dependent areas of the system. Examples will use both MS Visual Studio-based applications and Linux-based applications.
According to CMP Technology, for over 20 years, the Software Development Conference & Expo has delivered reliable, trustworthy and practical training to thousands of professionals seeking the best education in C , Java, XML, Web Services, modeling, methodologies, and development process.
At Codefast, Tom is responsible for the technical product direction and product management. He has been involved in software technology for over twenty years, from a product, management, and technical perspective. Tom comes to Codefast from Rational, where he had been the director of product strategy, focused on identifying new opportunities, technologies, and companies to leverage.
Prior to that, Tom directed the engineering effort and technical product direction for the award-winning Rational Rose Visual Modeling product. He was also one of the contributors to the Unified Modeling Language (UML) 1.0 effort. Prior to his 12 year tenure at Rational, Tom was one of the founding members of the GE Advanced Concepts Center where he helped bring the OMT method and tools to market.
