Research and Markets: Fenofibrate is Solvay Pharmaceuticals Flagship Product and Principal Growth Driver

Other growth drivers include: the male hormone product, Androgel, which has been Solvays top-selling product for a number of years; the neuroscience products, Marinol (dronabinol) and Serc (betahistine); the influenza vaccine, Influvac; the pancreatic enzyme, Creon; and Teveten (eprosartan mesylate) for hypertension.

Key Late-Stage Products

Dualtis/Synordia (fenofibrate+metformin) was filed in the EU in July 2006 for dyslipidaemia and if approved, it would be the first product on the market that combines a lipid-lowering drug with an oral antidiabetic in one tablet.

The atypical antipsychotic, bifeprunox, for the treatment of schizophrenia is expected to be filed in the EU during 2008, rather than 2006 as originally planned. Solvay and Wyeth submitted an NDA for schizophrenia to the FDA in October 2006.

SLV308, an oral therapy being developed for the treatment of the less-advanced stages of Parkinson's disease, is in Phase III trials.

Zolip (fenofibrate+statin) is in Phase III trials for dyslipidaemia, with launch scheduled for 2010.
