Avnet Electronics Marketing, Analog Devices and Micron Technology Team to Offer Video Surveillance Development Kit
Business Wire, Jan 16, 2007
Based on ADI's Blackfin and Micron Image Sensors, New Kit is Designed to Speed Time-to-Market by Simplifying the Design of Video Surveillance Applications
PHOENIX -- Avnet Electronics Marketing, in conjunction with Analog Devices and Micron Technology, Inc., announces the release of a new development kit that simplifies the design of video surveillance applications. The kit is based on a Blackfin[R] processor from Analog Devices and a CMOS image sensor from Micron.
The release of the new development kit enables engineers to capitalize on the growing market for digital video surveillance systems, which are replacing CCTV systems. The kit is designed to help developers combine control and signal processing with CMOS image sensors to analyze digital video for motion detection, threat analysis, and alerting capability - creating "smart camera" applications.
"We wanted to provide engineers with an integrated, cost-effective way to rapidly prototype their digital video applications, taking advantage of the latest innovations in processing and image sensing," said Rafael Cruz, vice president of design services at Avnet.
The kit uses the latest processing innovations including two Parallel Peripheral Interfaces (PPI) Units supporting ITU-R 656 video data formats and dual Blackfin cores within a single chip. The kit comes in a small form factor (two-inch by three-inch), single card versus the current, more complex, three board solution.
"Avnet's factory trained and certified field application engineers have the knowledge and embedded processing experience to technically support customers in the area of video surveillance. The release of this kit demonstrates their expertise in areas such as digital video processing and CMOS image sensing," said Jerry McGuire, general manager, Convergent Platforms and Services Group, Analog Devices.
Cruz says that Avnet's field application engineers, who specialize in designing with embedded processors, are prepared to conduct onsite demonstrations of the hardware kit and associated software development tools. The complete kit is available at a special introductory price of US$499.00.
"Rapid development, a complete hardware and software solution, support from Avnet's factory trained and certified field application engineers, and a single board solution at a lower cost - our customers have the tools to develop a state-of-the-art digital video surveillance system," said Paul Gallagher, director of new market development for Micron's imaging group. "As the market for digital video surveillance cameras continues to grow, Micron's portfolio of CMOS imaging solutions provides the necessary image quality, functionality and price to meet manufacturers' design needs."
According to iSuppli, the market for digital video surveillance cameras is poised to grow at a CAGR of 88 percent from 2004 -2009 and is projected to surpass CCTV cameras in units by 2010.
