Learn How to Optimize a Visit to a College Campus

Business Wire, Jan 19, 2007

PHILADELPHIA -- Viewbooks are pretty, college Web sites are informative. But the true test of finding the right school comes when prospective students see the campus for themselves.

Drexel University's Vikki Toomer, associate director of the campus visit experience, offers the following tips on what to do when visiting a campus.

* Before visiting a college campus, do research on the college

* Bring comfortable walking shoes.

* Bring a journal to keep notes about the college.

* Try to meet with various members of the campus community.

* Ask a variety of questions on athletics, financial aid and the community in order to get sufficient information.

* If a campus visit seems impossible, call the school's admissions office to ask questions about the college.

Parents and prospective students can learn what to look for, who to talk to and what questions to ask from Toomer in the second episode of "College Bound" on Jan. 21. The show will air on WPSJ-TV and WBGN-TV throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, South Jersey and Cincinnati.

Co-hosted by Brian Greenberg, certified college planning specialist, the show will cover every aspect of the college search and admissions process in each of the 13 episodes to be broadcast weekly. Drexel experts and students will share with high school students and their parents information on scholarships, internships, cooperative education, financial aid, online education, career options, the transfer process and graduate studies.

All "College Bound" episodes will be available for download at www.drexel.edu/collegebound. The interactive Web site offers college seekers the opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback from Drexel admissions experts and students.
