SRI Consulting Releases Comprehensive Global Report
MENLO PARK, Calif. -- Despite recent consolidation in the global specialty pigments industry, most specialty pigments have become high-value products with manufacturers enjoying high margins and little competition. Today, SRI Consulting (SRIC) released its new Specialty Pigments report that provides comprehensive and current information on the global specialty pigment industry, trends, and opportunities.
RJ Chang, Assistant Director of SRIC's Specialty Chemicals Update Program (SCUP), commented, "New markets are opening up for these specialty pigments." Mr. Chang added, "But only the companies willing to invest in research and product development are benefiting from the new markets."
Specialty pigments are found in high quality inks, high performance paints and coatings, plastics and cosmetics. Specialty chemical companies have developed pigments that produce special effects such as: interference/color shifting, luminescent/phosphorescent, fluorescent, metal effect, light sensitive photochromic, and color changing thermochromic.
Lead author and Senior Consultant Ray Will said, "Specialty pigments provide manufacturers higher margins behind higher barriers of entry as compared to commodity pigments. Commodity pigment producers are being challenged by increased price competition as well as competition from Chinese and Indian producers." Mr. Will added, "From security printing and anti-counterfeiting labeling to bold new automotive finishes, to color shifting lip gloss and eye shadow, specialty pigments offer high performance and high value."
Mr. Will is speaking on specialty pigments at the Color Pigments Manufacturers Association International Conference on April 25-27. For additional information about the conference please visit www.pigments.org.
SRI Consulting's new topic report was created in response to the increasing needs of the specialty pigment industry to focus on high value market segments. The 141 page report contains comprehensive coverage of the global specialty pigment industry as well as producer details and market segments by geographic region, with business dynamics profiled for the major producers.
