Jesse Dollemore's Personal State Of The Union Address Chosen As Contest Winner By Members Of World's Leading Lifestyle Portal
LOS ANGELES -- On the eve of the President's annual State of the Union Address, MySpace announced today the winner of MyState of the Union, a contest in which users submitted videos expressing their views on where America is, and where it should be going. MySpace community members chose Jesse Dollemore's sixty-second video as the winning entry. Dollemore, 32, of Boise, Idaho, will receive a prize package including an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, DC.
"I would like to thank MySpace for being a genuine forum for the honest and open exchange of dialogue and ideas. True and open thought is one of the only true freedoms we have. It cannot be controlled, governed or taxed," said Jesse Dollemore. "Through MyState of the Union address, I hope to encourage Americans to work together within the confines of our flawed but workable political system to create that more perfect union that our founding fathers worked for so diligently."
Former Senate Majority Leader Dr. Bill Frist and former White House Chief of Staff John Podesta, along with leading political bloggers from the Left and Right, Markos Moulitsas ZAniga of DailyKos and Jonah Goldberg of National Review Online, pared users' 60-second video submissions down to the top four which were voted upon by the MySpace community at-large.
"Whether our users agree or disagree with the ideas expressed in the winning video, we are thrilled people are leveraging MySpace as a platform for political dialogue," said Chris DeWolfe, CEO and co-founder of MySpace.com. "Coming into the 2008 election cycle, we expect MySpace to play an increasing role in empowering people to make a positive impact on the world."
In his MyState of the Union address, Dollemore discussed how issues such as immigration and the environment continue to create division among Americans. Overall, Dollemore said that the state of the union is strong, citing the recent change of power during the mid-term elections as an example of how our political process continues to work.
