Business Wire, Jan 3, 2007
LEAVENWORTH, Wash. -- Sleeping Lady Mountain Retreat, situated outside the Bavarian-themed town of Leavenworth, will host three days of classic film noir during the ninth annual Winter Mystery Weekend this February 9th, 10th and 11th. This year's event is titled "Film Noir: Murder and Mayhem at Midnight." Over the three days, guests will screen and discuss three film noir classics, "Out of the Past", "Fatal Attraction" and "L.A. Confidential" at the on-site Chapel Theatre. Liahna Armstrong, professor of English at Central Washington University and film columnist for the Ellensburg Daily Record, will again host the events of the weekend.

This is the ninth annual Winter Mystery Weekend at Sleeping Lady and many guests have been coming every year since the kickoff event in 1999. According to Armstrong, "Participants' backgrounds vary greatly. We have librarians and construction workers, retirees and newlyweds, lawyers and computer geeks, teachers and students, and everything in between. Everyone enjoys the lively dialogue that follows film screenings and the conversations continue over meals and drinks well into the evenings." Participants come from all over the state of Washington, and some from as far away as Massachusetts and Hawaii.
Included in the weekend package are gourmet meals at the Kingfisher Dining Lodge, a no host bar at the Salmon Gallery, a poker showdown and a trivia contest with prizes for the winners. Ample free time during the weekend will allow guests to take advantage of the nearby winter recreation opportunities and Leavenworth shopping. Double occupancy is $332 per person, and this includes two nights lodging, gourmet meals and weekend activities. Additional adults are $226 each and kids 5-12 are $58 each.

About Sleeping Lady Mountain Retreat
Harriet Bullitt started Sleeping Lady Mountain Retreat 10 years ago to protect the natural beauty of a property near her Leavenworth home. Prior to her purchase, the site had been used as a base by the Civilian Conservation Corps (under the Roosevelt Administration during the 1930's and '40's), as a dude ranch for family vacations, and as a Camp for the Catholic Youth Organization. In 1991, Bullitt purchased all 67 acres to preserve the land; soon after, she started making plans to redevelop the property into a mountain retreat that would embrace the site's natural setting and attract visitors seeking an experience off the beaten path. Cross-country ski packages start at $64.25 per person, downhill packages at $92.25 per person, and include lodging, gourmet dinner, breakfast and a trail pass or lift ticket.
