Shavlik Technologies and St. Bernard Software Sign Agreement to Add UpdateEXPERT® to Shavlik's Portfolio
Business Wire, Jan 30, 2007
Acquisition Makes Shavlik Technologies Clear Market Leader
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Shavlik Technologies, LLC, a leading security policy compliance and automated vulnerability management provider, and St. Bernard Software, Inc. (OTCBB:SBSW), a global provider of comprehensive security, continuity and collaboration solutions for small and midsize businesses (SMBs), today announced they have finalized an agreement for Shavlik to acquire all rights to the UpdateEXPERT([R]) product line from St. Bernard. Shavlik acquires the product line and assumes full responsibility for service and support for all existing UpdateEXPERT customers and products.
As a result of this acquisition, Shavlik is in a position to establish itself as the industry's leading "Patching and Remediation" vendor, according to research from IDC's recently released Worldwide Security and Vulnerability Management Software report1. Shavlik and UpdateEXPERT bring together two of the industry's leading solutions for patch and remediation -- both of which excel at providing comprehensive and non-intrusive assessment, expansive security databases, and integrated security configuration, policy and compliance management.
"This acquisition is very positive for both UpdateEXPERT customers and our existing customers as it demonstrates our commitment and continued investment in providing superior technology solutions for a growing market segment," said Mark Shavlik, CEO of Shavlik Technologies. "We will work hard to ensure all of our new UpdateEXPERT customers receive the same high level of support Shavlik's current customers have come to expect from us. As IDC's new report indicates, the security and vulnerability management market is estimated to grow nearly 17 percent annually to $3.4 billion by 2010. Adding UpdateEXPERT to our current product offerings means Shavlik Technologies is prepared to lead this market and expand our share through the roll out of new solutions that simplify policy management and compliance requirements for our customers."
"As St. Bernard turns its focus more aggressively on our continuity and security solutions, Shavlik Technologies was the logical choice for St. Bernard to turn to for long term support of our UpdateEXPERT customers due to its reputation as the industry standard for patch management," stated Vince Rossi, CEO of St. Bernard Software. "Mark Shavlik and I are ensuring that our companies work closely together during this transition to enable a positive experience for all UpdateEXPERT customers, both now and into the future."
In recognition of the enterprise level feature set and future planned functionality for the Shavlik products, St. Bernard will soon migrate their own internal security assessment and remediation process to Shavlik NetChk([TM]) Protect 5.8, Shavlik's next generation vulnerability management solution.
"The steady growth of the security and vulnerability management market underscores the importance of solutions that assist organizations in policy creation and management, as well as compliance measurements and audits," said Charles J. Kolodgy, research director, Security Products, IDC, and co-author of the recently released IDC Opinion report. "IT Security is clearly shifting focus to risk and compliance management, and to succeed at this requires automated and proactive measures to assess, remediate and manage known vulnerabilities, configuration settings, and policy adherence across distributed networks."
The companies are currently finalizing long-term product plans, with more details being released over the coming months.
Executives from St. Bernard Software and Shavlik Technologies are available for questions at the upcoming RSA Conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Representatives from both companies will be in Shavlik's booth #809 on Tuesday, February 6th, 2007.
At RSA, customers will receive demonstrations of Shavlik's latest release of Shavlik NetChk Protect 5.8, which has several new enterprise features for Active Vulnerability Management, including full Microsoft([R]) Vista support.
