Axis Introduces Full Frame Rate Video Server and Rack Solution for Professional Surveillance

CHELMSFORD, Mass. -- Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market, introduced today a video server blade and rack solution for professional surveillance installations. The AXIS 291 1U Video Server Rack holds up to three interchangeable Axis blade video servers and includes a built-in Gigabit switch. The AXIS 243Q Blade Video Server is specially designed for the AXIS 291 1U rack. It converts video signals from up to four analog cameras into full frame rate, de-interlaced digital video that can be viewed via an IP network. The combination is ideal for use in any professional security application that requires the conversion of analog video to a high-performance, digital solution.

The AXIS 243Q blade video server delivers 30 frames a second of video per channel, at 4CIF, in MPEG-4 or Motion JPEG compression. In addition, it offers a number of advanced features such as video motion detection, image upload, and scheduled and triggered event functionality with alarm notification. The video server's serial port enables the remote control of analog pan/tilt/zoom cameras. It has a comprehensive set of security features, including multiple user access levels, HTTPS encryption, IEEE 802.1X and IP address filtering to secure video handling and configuration. The AXIS 243Q also supports Quality of Service (QoS), Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and IPv4 addresses.

The AXIS 291 1U is a cost-effective, 19-inch rack with 1U height that provides connectors for network, serial ports and input/output (I/O) at the rear of each slot. It has an integrated power supply and supports the hot swapping of blade video servers, so there is no need to power down when installing or changing blades. Its Gigabit switch integrates up to 12 analog cameras into an IP-based solution with the use of a single Ethernet port.

The products are supported by the industry's largest base of application software through the Axis Application Development Partner program, as well as the AXIS Camera Station video management software. The AXIS 243Q and AXIS 291 1U are currently available through Axis' distribution channels for the manufacturer's suggested prices of $999 (AXIS 243Q Blade) and $399 (AXIS 291 1U).
