Business Wire, Jan 4, 2007
Agreement Gives Millions of LYCOS Users Access to "City Sessions" Episodes Showcasing up-and-coming Music Artists from Cities Including Dallas, Los Angeles, New York and Nashville; First of Its Kind Promotional Opportunity for Hot Indie Bands
DALLAS -- World Digital Media Group, L.L.C., (WDMG) today announced that LYCOS, Inc., a leading community destination for high-quality broadband entertainment content, has chosen WDMG as the first music content provider for its newly launched proprietary entertainment platform "LYCOS Cinema" (http://cinema.lycos.com), the Web's only watch-and-chat video experience.
Beginning today, WDMG subsidiary "Your Music Channel" will provide LYCOS with dozens of 30-minute episodes of "City Sessions," a high-definition show spotlighting recording studio sessions featuring hot indie bands from multiple cities including Dallas, Los Angeles, New York and Nashville. The result is a new and unique format combining the best of both a live recording in a real studio and high-definition video. The LYCOS Cinema proprietary watch-and-chat technology gives LYCOS users the ability to enjoy high-quality musical talent, while "City Sessions" artists can tap into millions of LYCOS users to grow a fan base beyond their local cities and towns.
"With LYCOS Cinema, WDMG is able to build a mass audience for our 'City Sessions' bands, giving up-and-coming indie bands broad exposure worldwide without having to navigate the traditional record-label labyrinth," said WDMG Chief Digital Officer Brad Smith. "With access to the 25 million visitors to LYCOS each month, including the No. 1 online destination for teens and tweens ages 13 to 24 with its Angelfire site, LYCOS is a powerful player in Web-based content. WDMG is proud to team up with such a visionary company to bring our content to broadcast platforms worldwide."
LYCOS users can watch their favorite "City Sessions" episodes, chat online with other users to share their thoughts about the bands, and even purchase their favorite "City Sessions" DVDs while viewing episodes. WDMG and LYCOS have entered into a revenue-sharing agreement encompassing both DVD sales and advertising revenue related to the LYCOS Cinema and "City Sessions" programming. The companies expect to launch a more robust lineup of music entertainment together in 2007.
LYCOS Cinema spotlights various "City Sessions" artists, giving LYCOS viewers the ability to watch the artists' performances while chatting with other LYCOS users. At launch, "City Sessions" on LYCOS Cinema will spotlight the best in independent music artists including Alice Peacock, Tyrone Wells, Keaton Simons, Emiko, SwampdaWamp and many others. More information about all "City Sessions" artists featured on LYCOS Cinema can be found at www.citysessionstv.com.
"LYCOS is excited to announce this relationship with WDMG and 'Your Music Channel' to deliver unique, high-quality music programming via LYCOS Cinema to our millions of LYCOS users," said Brian Kalinowski, chief operating officer of LYCOS, Inc. "Our goal is to give content providers innovative opportunities to promote talented artists to entirely new audiences and 'City Sessions' is a perfect fit for LYCOS Cinema."
LYCOS is first to market with its proprietary watch-and-chat technology, a patent-pending video platform that allows users to view and chat in synchronous real-time. Unlike other video sites, the watch-and-chat platform provides truly interactive, real-time, user-driven video viewing. Digital rights owners, artists and content managers can release content to a VIP or general audience with direct interaction, providing screening and sampling opportunities, marketing and promotion and innovative opportunities for new revenue streams. Content is securely wrapped in Microsoft's DRM technology provided by Microsoft's Windows Media Rights Manager, to protect artists' rights.
Bands interested in contacting WDMG for the chance to become a "City Sessions" artist can visit www.citysessionstv.com or inquire via e-mail to cs-info@citysessionstv.com.
