Analog Devices Announces New RF Design Tool for Development of Short Range Wireless Devices
Business Wire, July 10, 2007
SRD Design Studio[TM] is a comprehensive software tool for short range radio systems
NORWOOD, Mass. -- The Analog Devices, Inc. (NYSE: ADI) SRD Design Studio is for short range device (SRD) wireless link design and simulation. Available at no charge on ADI's web site, SRD Design Studio assists users in evaluating, designing, and troubleshooting short range radio communications devices utilizing Analog Devices' ADF70xx family of SRD transmitters and transceivers. The ADF70xx products are optimized for use in automatic meter reading, industrial automation, security, home automation, remote controls and other low-power wireless network and telemetry applications. ADI's SRD Design Studio is available for downloading at www.analog.com/srddesign.
> SRD Design Studio's enhanced features eliminate time-consuming iterations from the design process to ensure products reach market faster. SRD Design Studio allows designers to view multiple parameters simultaneously, in both the time and frequency domains, to enable rapid prototype development and design optimization without the use of multiple spreadsheets and iterative lab work. The software tool provides designers with FCC, ETSI and ARIB-compliant design templates for easy-to-use evaluation, customization, and simulation."SRD Design Studio leverages our SRD expertise and online simulation tool leadership to take the guesswork out of wireless performance," said Christian Kermarrec, vice president, RF and wireless systems, Analog Devices, Inc. "As a natural extension of our cost-effective, low-power SRD transmitters and transceivers, designers using SRD Design Studio can quickly and efficiently conduct real-time simulations, test various configurations and troubleshoot potential problems when implementing short range wireless links in their design."
SRD Design Studio allows designers to choose from three main simulations, including frequency domain, transient analysis and spectrum analyzer. By observing the behavior of the wireless link within these parameters, designers obtain a real-time representation of the SRD frequency, sync detection, power consumption and radio link analysis. Utilizing the extremely powerful spectrum analyzer, users can view modifications in frequency domain and compare for different modulation options, data rates, loop filters and other criteria.
SRD Design Studio offers a series of worksheets that assist designers, in troubleshooting all key factors that are significant in affecting short range radio link performance. These worksheets are especially effective for determining accurate simulation of spectrum, effects of modulation and phase noise, determination of regulatory compliance, modulation simulations and in design of automatic synchronization. Designers who are not familiar with SRDs will benefit from the tool's ability to troubleshoot potential problems. Worksheets include:
* Design Wizard: Includes default settings for the various regional regulations
* Link Budget: Allows range estimation
* Frequencies Worksheet: Aids in choice of crystal and phase-frequency detector
* Transmitter Spectrum: Extremely flexible virtual spectrum analyzer
* Antenna/Filter: Help in optimizing antenna and matching circuits
* Packet Formatting: Enter the packet structure to see effect on battery life and packet error rate
* Sync Detection: Helps choose sync byte with optimal autocorrelation properties
* Power Consumption: Different Sleep-Tx-Rx scenarios possible. Aids in battery life calculation
