Application Security, Inc.'s DbProtect™ Expands Operating System Support for Oracle Databases

Business Wire, July 11, 2007

Expanded Privileged Activity Monitoring and Auditing Capabilities Critical for Customers with Multiple OS Environments

NEW YORK -- Application Security, Inc., the leading provider of database security solutions for the enterprise, today announced that its market-leading database activity monitoring solution, DbProtect AppRadar[TM] now supports local monitoring of Oracle databases operating on IBM AIX, HP-UX and Linux. The company's continued efforts to provide activity monitoring and auditing solutions across heterogeneous environments demonstrates Application Security, Inc.'s commitment to offer the most comprehensive database security solution, including at the host level.

The new host-based sensors within the DbProtect[TM] suite monitor privileged activity on both HP-UX PA-RISC and HP-UX Itanium, as well as IBM AIX and Linux 64-bit. This expanded support is critical as it offers enterprise customers who typically have heterogeneous environments the ability to audit both remote and local administrative activity independent of platform. In general, host-based sensors offer a scalable deployment model that provides highly tunable auditing and monitoring without imposing complex IT restrictions or requiring native auditing. These new host-based sensors, combined with network-based sensors, allow organizations unprecedented flexibility to configure database monitoring deployments to their unique requirements using host-based, network-based, or hybrid data collection as appropriate.

"Organizations realize that with insider threats on the rise they need to monitor privileged activity," said Ted Julian, vice president of marketing and strategy for Application Security, Inc. "Insider threats can stem from employees, consultants, contractors, customers, and suppliers - anyone who has access to a company's most critical asset: its data. Mitigating this risk with comprehensive activity monitoring is essential and must include all sensitive data, independent of platform."

Far more than a general-purpose usage analysis tool and not restricted solely to Web traffic, DbProtect's AppRadar module delivers best-in-class auditing and security for all traffic to and from the database, including administrator usage. The industry's leading vulnerability knowledge-base of database threats uniquely allows DbProtect to monitor all user activity and system changes and flag complex attacks and threats with context-rich, real-time alerts. As a result, known threats like cursor injection are immediately flagged and named as such thus sparing administrators unnecessary grunt work and speeding intelligent response.
