ViaCell Names John F. Thero Chief Financial Officer

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- ViaCell, Inc. (Nasdaq: VIAC) today announced the appointment of John F. Thero as the Company's Senior Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer. In this role, he will have broad responsibility for all financial and administrative matters of the Company and be actively involved in corporate development and other strategic and operational matters. He will report directly to Marc D. Beer, ViaCell's President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Thero replaces Stephen G. Dance who is leaving the Company to pursue new opportunities. Mr. Dance will remain with the Company for a transition period.
"John is a seasoned executive with broad operational and financial experience in rapidly growing companies and will be a tremendous asset to ViaCell as we continue to expand our commercial operations," said Mr. Beer. "We are extremely pleased John is joining our management team and look forward to his contributions at ViaCell."

Mr. Thero has more than 20 years of senior financial and operational management experience, the majority of which is in the life sciences industry. Most recently, Mr. Thero was Chief Financial Officer of Acusphere, Inc. and Abiomed, Inc. Mr. Thero began his professional career at Arthur Andersen LLP, during which time he became a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Thero holds a B.A. in Economics and Accounting from the College of the Holy Cross.
