HiWAAY Expands with Juniper Networks Routers and Secure Services Gateway to Improve Network Reliability

ISP Deploys M-series in Network Core; J-series Routers and SSG Products to Enable Managed Network Services
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that HiWAAY Internet Services has deployed Juniper Networks M-series multiservice routers and J-series services routers to increase the capacity and extend the reach of its network. HiWAAY, one of the largest privately held ISPs in the southeastern U.S., also uses Juniper Networks' Secure Services Gateway (SSG) products and J-series routers as part of its managed network service offering, installing SSGs and J-series in customer networks. As a result, the company is transitioning to an all-Juniper network designed to improve network reliability and increase customer satisfaction.
"We have been incredibly impressed with the reliability and performance of the Juniper solutions, and are transitioning to an all-Juniper network based on our success to-date," said John Hasty, Manager of Network Services, HiWAAY Internet Services. "By using Juniper in the core all the way out to the customer premises, we have been able to scale our network to meet growing demand, while also seeing a big improvement in network performance and reliability."
Prior to deploying the Juniper solution, the growth of HiWAAY's residential and business customers had outstripped the capacity of the company's existing core network. The centrally managed M- and J-series routers provide the agility and scale needed to sustain HiWAAY's rapid growth with minimum setup and ongoing maintenance costs.
By using Juniper Networks J-series and SSG solutions to enable its premises-based managed services, HiWAAY has been able to reduce installation costs and speed installation time, because the solutions are simple to configure and manage.
"The ease of implementation of the SSG line and J2300 enterprise routers makes our job very easy," Hasty continues. "The SSG is a very simple device to configure and install, particularly compared to competitive devices, and is not at all invasive to install--the customer's network is usually back up in just a few minutes."
Juniper Networks M-series multiservice routers allow providers to consolidate multiple networks onto a single IP/MPLS infrastructure, while enabling the fast and cost-effective introduction of new services. J-series routers provide up to Gigabit Ethernet performance for enterprise remote, branch, and regional offices. Both J- and M-series run modular JUNOS software which offers advanced services (MPLS, IPv6, quality of service (QoS), multicast) and security (stateful firewall and IPSec VPN) with carrier-grade reliability. The J-series Services Routers support integrated IP Telephony using the Avaya IG500 Integrated Gateway.
The Juniper Networks SSG family of integrated network security appliances is purpose-built to deliver a perfect blend of performance, security and LAN/WAN connectivity for small branch office and small business deployments that may not have the extensive IT resources of larger organizations. Traffic flowing in and out of the branch office can be protected from worms, Spyware, Trojans, and malware by a complete set of optional Unified Threat Management (UTM) security features.
"HiWAAY's deployment is a great example of the synergies between our product lines and the benefits we can provide with a comprehensive Juniper solution of routing and security solutions," said Judy Beningson, vice president of service provider strategy and planning, Juniper Networks. "Companies such as HiWAAY are able to deliver a wide range of services quickly, reliably, and cost-effectively--and in turn pass along these benefits directly to their customers."
